Longing for a blanket of peace

Last night I could see the moon

peeking through the leaves of the trees lining the lane,

its silver disc nearly full, shining its light

on the darkness below.

And tonight it will peek

through the roof of our sukkah,

which we finished building yesterday,

the moonlight casting a silvery glow on all below,

a blanket of peace for a world sorely in need of peace,

a world hoping for the return of the hostages

and an end to the war in Gaza,

a world in need of something to hope for,

something to believe in,

some way of regaining a full heart.

May the sukkah spread over all its blessings

of comfort and strength

in a fragile world

where life can change

in the blink of an eye.
