Lose-lose situation in the US
This is such a difficult time for Jews in America. The November Presidential elections are a lose-lose situation, though if Israel would be the only consideration then one would have to vote for Trump.
Kamala Harris became the nominee without primaries which she would never have won as there are much better Democratic politicians. We should have strong suspicions that, on Israel, she will align herself with the radical left Israel haters in her Party.
Biden’s comment, at the DNC Convention, that the pro-Hamas demonstrators have a point, without any mention of support for Israel is meant to help Harris with those protestors, and it promises tough times ahead should Harris win in November.
It is true that Bibi Netanyahu does not help with Israel’s image in the US and elsewhere in the world. Many Jews do not trust that he serves Israel’s best interests and clearly neither do many Israelis. The Democrats have made Bibi the symbol for Israel and a “perfect” excuse to state that being against Israel is not antisemitism. It is high time that Israel selects a leader that represents the real Israel.
Of course those shouting “from the river to the sea” and those claiming their concern for Gazans have no concerns on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Iran’s theocratic dictatorship and sponsoring of terrorism, or even condemn Hamas for their violent, anti LGBT, anti human rights, dictatorship in Gaza since 2007. When it quacks like an antisemite, walks like an antisemite, it most likely is an antisemite.
Unfortunately the anti Israel movement has gained strength in the US. If in Europe the massive Muslim immigration has made it difficult for Jews to walk in the street with a kippa, in the US it is more domestic and largely a problem created by the radical left. The one thing Hamas did not want on October 7 was to make Israel even more indispensable for Jews around the world and right now I am not so sure that my kids and grand kids should feel comfortable about their future in the US.
When it comes to Trump, the problem is that he is Trump……. and his extreme narcissism should make him undesirable for President. But Trump DID deliver the move of our Embassy to Jerusalem and his Administration also delivered the very important Abraham Accords.
As a middle-of-the-road American, who has voted Republican and Democrat in the past, I have no confidence in Kamala Harris’ economic platform and for sure do not trust her on Israel. I am also disgusted by Trump’s personality and I fear that he will push the Supreme Court further to extreme conservatism. People tell me that I must make a choice, but I find that very difficult. Right now I plan that on November 5, I will be on a beach somewhere far away from a voting booth.
