Losing Our Religion

Religion was supposed to be a safety net,
A warm reprieve from a hostile world.
A place of honor, connection and love.
But man perverted it.
He took Justice
He took Truth
He took Good
He took Love
He took what was Pure and Divine and diminished it.
Ego pushed G-d out and molded religion in his image.
And so religion became frail and faulty,
Subject to man’s weaknesses and failures.
Now we are left with
Injustice
Falsehood
Evil
Hate
And Death
Yet, foolish man does not see beyond his ego.
He blames the situation
He blames people
He blames G-d
Pushing and pushing G-d further away.
He shone the light, but we did not see.
He sent the book, but we did not follow.
He called our name, but we did not answer.
So, we cry, we wail, we scream in the dark
grasping at straws thinner than air.
Never learning from past mistakes.
It is we who wage war.
Pitting Ego against Ego.
Each one more “righteous” than the next.
Some in the name of “God”
Some in the name of “truth”
Some in the name of “compassion”
Some in the name of “peace”
Never fully knowing what these mean.
We failed humankind, we failed G-d.
We have created a thick dark mass of clouds.
But beyond them still exists the light that will eventually come through.
