Thank you, Susan Hattis Rolef (Think About it: The Press Conference), for quoting Richard Wolff of the British Guardian who called it an “anti-press conference”. After watching the whole thing, that was just the humor I needed.
I found her summary of the spectacle fair, but I must say that she misunderstood its aim. President Trump was not trying to right or change reporters or the media. Rather, he was connecting to the public, showing them that he’s not intimidated are shy, or unreasonable, giving the circumstances.
Same tactic as in hasbara, when one opposes rabid anti-Zionists. One doesn’t try to change their minds; rather, one aims to inform and win over the innocent people watching the verbal war.
And Trump did a marvelous job at it, declaring his own stream of victories, showing to be their superior, and all this completely not inhibited by facts.
