Mark Vandermaas speech to thousands at Toronto Israel rally: “No Peace Without Truth”

I was honoured to be one of the speakers who addressed the thousands of Canadians on the steps of our province’s legislature building in Toronto, Ontario at the July 27/14 Canadians For Israel Rally for Freedom & Democracy.

Here are my notes and a copy of the reference handout I provided for the crowd:

‘NO PEACE WITHOUT TRUTH’

As a Christian; as a former UN peacekeeper; and as a human being I feel a duty to speak out for the innocent Arab victims of Hamas as well as the Jewish victims. So…to begin I would like to ask if you would join me in observing one minute of silence for BOTH Arab & Jewish victims of Hamas’s genocidal charter.

In 1963 Dr. Martin Luther King wrote his landmark “Letter From Birmingham Jail” in which he said:

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice;

Well-meaning people pressured Israel into a negative peace in 2012. They wanted to end the tension created by evil people who use women and children as tools of war, and so Israel was forced to stop short of destroying a genocidal regime that threatens its very existence.

These well-meaning people share the blame for the Arabs and Jews who are dying today because they preferred ‘order’ to justice. And they will share the blame for dead Arabs and Jews in the future if Hamas is not destroyed.

There is only one path to peace: it begins with truth. There is no justice and no peace without truth. There are many truths we can talk about, but let me talk about the most important: We must destroy the false ‘occupation’ narrative.

When people ask about the occupation, we must say “What occupation?” We must tell them that Jews are owners, not occupiers because they have a land title deed from the original 2 state solution: the 1922 League of Nations Mandate For Palestine.

We must hold up your land title deed and read to them what the world community unanimously approved in the Mandate document.

From the preamble: “Whereas recognition has…been given to the historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country.”

The world community recognized your ancient ties to Palestine and your right to ‘reconstitute’ your ‘national home there.

Article 6 says: “The administration of Palestine…shall encourage…close settlement by Jews on the Land.” That includes Judea and Samaria!

Please…download your land title deed—the Mandate for Palestine—and understand that you ARE owners not occupiers. You can find a copy at IsraelTruthWeek.org.

You will also see in that document a memorandum from the British government showing that land east of the Jordan River promised to Jews for their reconstituted national home was instead given to appease Arabs in what is now Jordan.

This was the original 2 state solution. We must ask Obama and Kerry why they are pushing a new 2 state solution and refusing to acknowledge the original.

We must destroy the false occupation narrative no matter how long it takes.

Yes, let us free Gaza – from Hamas.

Let us free Gaza – with the truth.
