Elizabeth Browder

Right now, on social media, there is a lot of statuses that say “#METOO”. It is very heartbreaking to see this. But it is a reality. 1 in 3 woman. 1 in 5 men. Most keep silent about the sexual harassment/abuse/assault they go through.

One thing that is standing out is this for me: the number of men coming out in support and with their stories. As a woman who has been sexually abused, it makes me somewhat hopeful that men will stand up for us when we come forward. AND we, as women, will stand up for them when they come forward.

Sexual violence affects ALL aspects of the victim’s life. They have trust issues, issues with sex. Some have issues with alcohol or drugs. They have an eternal fear they will not be believed, that they will be told. That they will be told it is their fault. One thing that I hope comes out of this is that victims will be able to come forward, tell their stories and BE BELIEVED.

If you are being sexually abused or have been sexually abused, please know you will be believed. Tell someone, any one who you trust.
