Miketz — Pharaoh Dreamed and Light of Chanukah

The Parallel Worlds

וַתַּעֲמֹדְנָה אֵצֶל הַפָּרוֹת, עַל-שְׂפַת הַיְאֹר …and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river (Gen 41:3)

The parallel crows symbolize the two parallel worlds, the fat cow is Olam HaZeh, and the lean cow is Olam HaBa, the river is the light that connects the two worlds.

River נָהָר in Hebrew also means light, and the river הַיְאֹר in above verse also means “to give light” הֵאִיר.

At the physical level, river and light both carry energy and display the wave-particle duality.

At the spiritual level, both river and light are the intermediary that connects the two opposites, specifically, the river is the flow of water from the fountain to the sea, and the light is the flow of energy from the “Ein Sof” to “Nothingness”, their gematria are the same:

Fountain מַעְיָן 170 Ein Sof אֵין סוֹף 207
River נָהָר 255 Light אוֹר 207
Sea יַם 50 Nothingness אַיִן 61
  475 475

Fountain is Wisdom, River is Understanding, and Sea is Knowledge. Similarly, Ein Sof is the source, Light is the channel, and Nothingness is the physical world created as “something from nothing” יֵשׁ מֵאַיִן.

“Light of Ein Sof” אוֹר אֵין סוֹף in gematria is 414, which is exactly the same gematria of “fountain of life” מְקוֹר חַיִּים, as it is written:

כִּי-עִמְּךָ, מְקוֹר חַיִּים; בְּאוֹרְךָ, נִרְאֶה-אוֹר For with Thee is the fountain of life; in Thy light do we see light (Psalm 36:10)

Olam HaZeh is the world of plenty, in terms of opportunity for man’s actions; Olam HaBa is the world of famine, where opportunity is no more, and man is judged for his actions.

In the same way that Joseph prepared for the year of famine in the year of plenty, so shall man prepare for Olam HaBa in Olam HaZeh.

River of Light

Both the seven fat cows and seven lean cows come up from the river, which was not interpreted by Joseph, for Joseph himself is the interpretation of the river. As it is written:

וְנָהָר יֹצֵא מֵעֵדֶן, לְהַשְׁקוֹת אֶת-הַגָּן; וּמִשָּׁם, יִפָּרֵד, וְהָיָה, לְאַרְבָּעָה רָאשִׁים. And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. (Gen 2:10)

Eden symbolizes Jacob the Tiferet, garden symbolizes Malchut the physical world that receives the sustenance from Tiferet; and river is Joseph who is Yesod that connects the two.

The river was parted into four heads, which are the four angels at the four directions of the earth, as follows:

Michael
Gabriel
Raphael
Uriel
  906

Adding 1 as kollel, 907 is the 156th prime number, where 156 is the gematria of Joseph

The actual names of the four rivers in gematria are 1345:

Pison
Gihon
Hiddekel
Euphrates
  1345

The difference in gematria between the four rivers and the four angels is: 1345 – 906 = 439, which is exactly the gematria of Galut גָּלוּת, meaning “exile”. The flowing of river from Eden to the garden symbolizes the descent of light from Ein Sof to the physical world, and the descent of soul from God to the physical body, which is the concept of exile. For the “soul of man is the candle of YHVH” (Prov 20:27), it follows that the return of the soul to God is the concept of redemption.

Joseph is called “son of cow” בֵּן פֹּרָת יוֹסֵף (Gen 49:22), the gematria is 888, which is the same gematria of “The Mashiach” spelled out

The Nile River at the physical level provides sustenance to Egypt, and the river of light at the spiritual level provides sustenance to the physical world. The light of the world is Mashiach as symbolized by Joseph:

Light of the world אוֹר הָעוֹלָם 358
Mashiach

The seven lean cows consumed the seven fat cows, this is because man will be judged before entering Olam HaBa and all will be found lacking, it is therefore incumbent upon man to prepare for the famine of the next world in this world with plenty of opportunities.

And Pharaoh dreamed

Dream is the parable for this world of exile, and waking up from the dream is the parable for the final redemption, as it is written:

בְּשׁוּב יְהוָה, אֶת-שִׁיבַת צִיּוֹן–הָיִינוּ, כְּחֹלְמִים When the LORD brought back those that returned to Zion, we were like unto them that dream (Psalm 126:1)

“And Pharaoh dreamed” וּפַרְעֹה חֹלֵם in gematria is 439, which is the same gematria of “exile” גָּלוּת. 439 is the 86th prime number alluding to Elohim, the God of judgement.

439 is also the gematria of “and behold it was a dream” in atbash, as follows:

And behold it was a dream
Atbash

Astonishingly, the ordinal number of “And Pharaoh dreamed” is 97, which is the 26th prime number alluding to YHVH, the God of redemption:

And Pharaoh dreamed
Ordinal number 6+17+20+16+5+8+12+13 97

This comes to reveal that as the World to Come is concealed within This World, so is the redemption concealed in the exile, and if the dream of Pharaoh symbolizes the exile, then the interpretation of the dream by Joseph would symbolize the redemption.

And Joseph interpreted the dream of Pharaoh

1296 is 36 squared, where 36 alludes to the 36 candles of Chanukah, the light of Mashiach.

The Ten Sefirot

In last week, Joseph interpreted the dreams that involved three branches of the vine and three baskets of bread; in this week, Joseph interpreted the dreams that involved seven cows and the seven sheaves. The formula of three and seven alludes to the ten Sefirot.

The vine and bread correspond to the three intellectual attributes, where the vine alludes to the secret of Torah and the bread alludes to the simple level of Torah.

The cows and sheaves correspond to the seven emotional attributes, where the cows allude to the animalistic side of the emotions and the sheaves allude to the spiritual side of the emotions. Cow is of the kingdom of animal that moves horizontally, and sheave is of the kingdom of plants that grows vertically. Man in his first nature is animalistic that chases after worldly pleasures, but the rectification of man in his second nature is like a plant that grows vertically in elevation, for this reason, Mashiach is called a plant צֶמַח.

Joseph symbolizes the tree of life, connecting the two worlds. He was called by his brothers “master of dreams” (Gen 37:19), and by Pharaoh “revealer of secrets”, (Gen 41:45), the average number for the three names is: 525 = 1575/3:

Joseph
Master of dreams
Revealer of secrets
  1575

525 is the gematria of “fiery river” נְהַר דִּי-נוּר(Dan 7:10), this is the river of light before the throne of God which flows from Eden to the garden.

Chanukah

The essence of Chanukah is the revelation of the Light of Mashiach that had been concealed since the beginning.

On each day of creation it was concluded with “and it was so” וַיְהִי-כֵן, except for the first day which was concluded with “and it was light” וַיְהִי-אוֹר. It was explained that this comes to teach us that the light was concealed.

There are 15 days left in Tishrei from the 1st day of Sukkot, 29 days in Cheshvan, and 25 days in Kislev until the 1st day of Chanukah, for a total of 15 + 29 + 25 = 69 days connecting the two holidays.

69 is the difference in gematria between light אוֹר and skin עוֹר, or letter Alef א and Ayin ע, the secret of concealment.

Sukkot corresponds to Jacob and Chanukah corresponds to Joseph, the union of father and son. To both Jacob and the rest of his sons, Joseph is dead, this is total darkness. When Joseph revealed himself as the son of Jacob, this is likened to the revelation of the light of Mashiach:

אֲנִי יוֹסֵף,הַעוֹד אָבִי חָי I am Joseph; doth my father yet live (Gen 45:3)

“Does my father yet live”, this is son connecting with the father, and the gematria of this verse is 333, exactly the same gematria of “Candle of Chanukah” נֵר חֲנֻכָּה, which dispels the darkness הַחשֶׁךְ, which in gematria is also 333.

The only reference to Chanukah in the Scriptures is John 10:22 and the theme is regarding the identity of Yeshua whether he is the Mashiach or not, to which he replied:

אֲנִי וְאָב אֶחָד I and Father are one (John 10:30)

The gematria of these three words is 83, which is exactly the same gematria of Chanukah

Light of Chanukah

According to Arizal, the secret of the light of Chanukah is the secret of the unification of three pairs of Divine names, as follows:

YHVH + Ehyeh
YHVH + Elohim
YHVH + Adonai
  250

250 is exactly the gematria of “Candle”

The name YHVH has four primary spellings, commonly known as Ab, Sag, Mah, and Ban.

If we are to substitute “Ab” for the first YHVH, and “Sag” for the second YHVH, the gematria is exactly 333, the gematria of “Candle of Chanukah” נֵר חֲנֻכָּה, as follows:

YHVH (Ab) + Ehyeh
YHVH (Sag) + Elohim
YHVH + Adonai
  333

If we are to substitute “Mah” for the third YHVH, the gematria is 352, adding 6 for the six names, the sum is 358, the exact gematria of Mashiach מָּשִׁיחַ, i.e. YHVH clothed לָבֵשׁ יְהוָה is Mashiach:

YHVH (Ab) + Ehyeh
YHVH (Sag) + Elohim
YHVH (Mah) + Adonai
Unification of Six Divine Names 6
  358

If we are to pair “Ban” with El Shaddai and add them to the unification:

YHVH (Ab) + Ehyeh
YHVH (Sag) + Elohim
YHVH (Mah) + Adonai
YHVH (Ban) + El Shaddai
  749

749 is the gematria of “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet” נֵר-לְרַגְלִי דְבָרֶךָ (Psalm 119:105), which is Mashiach who is called the Word of God, and 749 is exactly the gematria of “Yeshua the Mashiach” יֵשׁוּעַ הַמָּשִׁיחַ.
