Miracles Within and Without

I saw a baby inside my baby,

Who is a baby no longer,

Now over two decades since seeing her herself

In that same shadow-water-world on the screen.

“Here is the heart,” said the doctor with the ultrasound probe,

Outlining two tiny ventricles in red and blue.

It pulsed a rapid pace,

Determined to draw life

From the beautiful young woman on the bed.

“Here are the eyes, nose and upper lip.”

I took in her face,

Its pinkish, full-bloom glow.

“Here are fingers.”

I marveled at the perfection, the grace of her hand.

“And the spine; a leg; another leg; a foot.”

How could that have sprouted in this?

How could this have flourished from that?

From the depths of my being,

I wished them well, their own beings

Traveling far from the shadow-water-world on the screen.
