More Bad News For Mitt

In the wake of the Republican presidential candidate’s widely criticized remarks that the 47 percent of Americans who back President Obama are “dependent on government” and don’t pay income tax comes an ominous survey from the American Jewish Commitee.

The poll, of 254 registered Jewish voters in the key swing state of Florida, found President Barack Obama leading Romney 69 percent to 25 percent, with 5 percent undecided, when asked who they would vote for if the election was held today.

QEV Analytics conducted the poll by telephone from September 7 through September 9. The number of respondents is a representative sample, AJC spokesman Kenneth Bandler said.

The National Jewish Democratic Council jumped on the news right away, sending out a triumphant press release and adding that recent data from Gallup found Obama leading 70 percent to 25 percent nationally.

The Republican Jewish Coalition could not be immediately reached for comment, but on Twitter its response to the poll was to retweet one @noahpollak, who pointed out that the same poll showed 74 percent of Florida’s Jewish voters supporting Israeli military action against Iran should diplomacy fails. 62 percent support U.S. action.
