NAZA did not happen in a vacuum
Another annual UN General Assembly session sees the customary criticism of Israel by international leaders who neglect actual genocides while promoting defamatory claims against Israel. The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, and others of his ilk distinctly characterized Israel as the genocidal capital of the world.
¹In his concluding UN speech on September 23, 2026, he once again focused on Israel and the alleged “genocide” in Gaza and the West Bank. Guterres said it was the worst he had seen during his tenure as Secretary-General. Guterres might benefit from a renewed education in truth, especially regarding genocides, mass murders, and destruction.
The Director of UN Watch, Hillel Neuer, offers a perspective on Guterres’s accusations and highlights the evident bias directed at Israel. ²In a September 23, 2026, interview with ILTV’s Caleb Ben-David, he reiterated that Guterres and, to some extent, the UN, seem to have short memories and fail to mention atrocities in places like Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Ethiopia, Congo, and so many other countries.
Gitnux, an independent statistical research company, provides interesting statistics on global political violence and deaths spanning decades or just a few years. In their ³2026 report on political violence statistics, the number of deaths from civil wars in Syria, Ethiopia, DR Congo, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen is staggering. Guterres and the other UN global speakers who defamed Israel must have missed the “worst” while purposely concentrating on the Gaza and West Bank genocide narrative. To refresh their memories, here are some eye-opening ³statistics:
- Syrian Civil War (2011-2023) 614,000 deaths
- Ethiopia (2020-2022) 600,000 deaths
- Somalia (1991-2023) 500,000 deaths
- DR Congo (since 1996) 6.9 million deaths
- Yemen (2014-2024) 377,000 deaths
- Nigeria’s Boko Haram has caused 350,000 deaths to date
- South Sudan (2013-2020) 383,000 deaths
- Mexico’s Cartel (since 2006) 400,000 deaths
- North Korea (since 1990) 400,000 deaths, 120,000 detainees
- China (since 2017) 1 million detained Uyghurs
Such devastating numbers should prompt the UN to focus on other parts of the world where genocide is occurring rather than on Israel, which responded to a pogrom on October 7, 2023, and still has to respond to decades of terrorist attacks against its population by Hamas, its sympathizers, and Hezbollah. It should be noted that neither Gaza nor the West Bank was included in this report.
Although Guterres’s remarks were distinctly provocative, if not blatantly ignorant, none were more ignorant than ⁴France’s Macron’s remarks that Hamas has never struck the West Bank. This buffoon must not have read any newspapers, because on Sunday, September 20, the eve of Yom Kippur, a Palestinian gunman and terrorist shot and killed Netanel Shukrun, an Israeli settler with six kids, and wait for it, a Frenchman. The gunman was later found hiding in a hospital.
Unfortunately, global leaders like these two, who flourish in the marble halls of the UN, are as irrelevant as their self-righteous demagoguery. As they pat each other on the back, pretending to care about human rights only when Israel is involved, they have created the playbook for anti-Israel activism, not only outside Israel but also within the country. This brings me to the Naza film, which has sparked a congratulatory stir among pinheads who aspire to the same inanities as Guterres and Macron while ignoring the truth. The UN and its continual anti-Israel rhetoric have legitimized disingenuous reporting and worldwide antisemitism. So, it should not be surprising that Nava was met with so much praise on the global “stage”.
To understand the reasons behind Naza, one must peel back the layers of duplicity that Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor present under the guise of “impartiality.” To uncover the roots of activism driven by a strong dislike for one’s country, it’s essential to scrutinize the urge to produce podcasts or films that are often only partly truthful or outright fictional and are mostly against Israel.
Yuval Abraham, often referred to as an “investigative journalist,” writes for the media outlets ⁵+972 and ⁷Local Call. These platforms feature bloggers and podcasters who produce articles such as “Israel’s Genocidal Government is Dissolving, Its Legacy is Here to Stay,” and podcasts like “How Israel Wields International Law as a License to Kill.” Local Call is a Hebrew version of +972. Both are immersed in far-left symbolic anti-Israel and anti-IDF activism prevalent in the West. This is reflected in their own ⁶“About” description, which states a belief ⁶“…in accurate and fair journalism that spotlights the people and communities working to oppose occupation and apartheid, and that showcases perspectives often overlooked or marginalized in mainstream narratives.”
⁸Abraham’s contributions to this anti-Israel “journalism” include articles such as “Under Israel’s Watch, Palestinian Gangs are Sowing Chaos in the West Bank” and “The Myth of Israel’s Arab Doctors.” His “investigations” focus predominantly on criticizing Israel, especially its military, while insidiously attempting to appear impartial. For instance, at the end of an article titled “New Data Reveals 98 Palestinian Deaths in Israeli Custody Since October 7,” a note in parentheses added that “The database does not contain information about members of other armed groups in Gaza…” This was added after writing an article that insinuated that prisoners held in Israel are rarely Hamas, omitting the fact that other terrorist factions have attacked Israel and Israeli civilians in the past. This is a minor portion of Yuval’s “perspectives that are overlooked,” as described by ⁶+972.
Rachel Szor is an activist cinematographer, director, and often an actor. Her private life is a closed book, as she has never shared it with anyone. Her ⁹Wikipedia entry is brief and mentions only the two films she directed or co-directed with Yuval Abraham and that she recently moved to Jerusalem. According to Wikipedia, Rachel and Yuval approach stories as “activists and journalists.” Naza went a step further by bringing ¹⁰Jonathan Glazer on as executive producer.
¹⁰In In 2024, Jonathan Glazer, who won an Academy Award for the movie The Zone of Interest, a dramatic interpretation of Auschwitz, used the Academy Award platform to deliver an anti-Israel speech that included a scathing comparison of the Shoah with the “…Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many people.” Jonathan denounced the “occupation” and “dehumanization” in Israel and Gaza. What he failed to do was to distinguish between the “dehumanization” that October 7th wrought on Jewish families and the “dehumanization” he claimed happens on “occupied territory”. Jonathan is a journalist for ¹¹The Guardian.
This connection between Yuval, Rachel, and Jonathan is crucial to understanding their objective of seeking their “truth”. They are connected through three biased media outlets: +972, Local Call, and the British pseudo-intellectual newspaper The Guardian.
The phrase “follow the money” sheds light on The Guardian’s ownership and funding, because whoever holds the purse strings controls the content. ¹²Factually is a fact-checker that determines its results by examining the subject’s pattern of behavior or reporting. When fact-checking The Guardian’s ownership and funding, ¹²Factually describes the newspaper as left-leaning and ideological. It is also funded by the Scott Trust and other “hybrid” sources, including donations, subscriptions, and endowments. This funding model is intended to eliminate the possibility of a single “wealthy owner” having sole control. However, although this model might reduce shareholder pressure, it can create ideological, partisan editorial reporting. Analysts and critics have noted biased, left-leaning reporting on Israel, especially during the Gaza conflict. According to Factually, Watchdog organizations have noted The Guardian’s hidden left-wing agendas, influenced by the audience the newspaper attracts and by its donors. This explains Jonathan’s bias against Israel.
Yuval Abraham, Rachel Szor, and Jonathan Glazer, through media outlets like +972, Local Call, and The Guardian, are empowered by global discourse on Israel and by the disdain most Western leaders and legacy media have for it. The movie was not produced in a vacuum. It was an intentional attempt to discredit Israel. ¹⁴ Israel News Pulse, a fact-checking site, identified unsubstantiated claims and allegations that have not been proven, or, for that matter, can be proven. The pseudo-villain nighttime footage shot on Tel Aviv rooftops was meant to add drama rather than convey truth. The film relies on anonymous sources, which, by definition, could be anyone, including a gardener. But the damage was done, as it allowed antisemites to make their blood libel known publicly without fear of consequences. A standing ovation in Venice: what could be more civilized and acceptable than that?
A footnote about Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor. According to Yuval’s Wikipedia ¹³biography, he refused to serve in the IDF for “political and personal reasons”. So, he was assigned to the Israeli Air Force as a Quartermaster. Rachel Szor’s background shows no service beyond her activism and cinematography. Despite their bland backgrounds, these two individuals feel compelled to besmirch their country and the IDF without remorse or regret. Should their citizenship be revoked? I am against anything that would elevate them to journalistic martyrdom.
Golda Meir, one of the wisest women of the last century, was not only pragmatic but also direct and to the point. One of her famous quotes puts everything into perspective:
¹⁵ “I am … grateful that I live in a country whose people have learned how to go on living in a sea of hatred without hating those who want to destroy them and without abandoning their own vision of peace. To have learned this is a great art, the prescription for which is not written down anywhere. It is part of our way of life in Israel.”
Were Yuval and Rachel more thankful for their Israeli heritage, they might not indulge in anti-Israel rhetoric for self-fulfillment; rather, they might adopt a constructive approach to peace through ethical journalism, steering clear of exaggerations that inadvertently contribute to international hostility against Jews and Israel. What a concept!
