Never Again

Two days ago I wrote a blog calling for a real unity government and an election here in Israel in thirty days. I was at least satisfied that General (Res) Yossi Peled made the same proposal for an election in thirty days, in an interview yesterday.

But today I watched Bibi at the court for the first day of his renewed trial, and I also saw the funerals, on television, of five of our soldiers who were killed in the last few days and finally watched the descriptions of their captivity, by two of the hostages who were released months ago.

What hit home is that Bibi’s trial is of no importance compared to the major crime of Bibi and all his cabinet-the crime of not doing all they could to bring back the hostages -LIVE!

The reasons for their actions are so obvious – for example, bringing back all the hostages will involve the end of the war in Gaza without total military victory-and for many reasons discussed over the past fourteen or more months this is not acceptable, neither to Bibi nor his allies!

What can we do?

We must look for new ways of ending the suffering of our fellow citizens! I have one more idea!

Finally, the time has come for President Herzog to announce (as did Yitzhak Navon did forty years ago!) that he, the President of Israel, demands a Judicial Investigation Commission and that he demands that our present government do whatever is necessary including ending the war in Gaza to bring our citizens-civilian and military-home!

The President can no longer avoid the issue in the interest of being “neutral”. “Neutral” has meant that the pain of the “one day Holocaust” of 7 October has lasted for more than fourteen months for many of our fellow countrymen and is a disgrace to us as Jews, who have believed in “Never Again!!!”

Will such a declaration work and carry enough weight among all our people? I do not know-but can anyone imagine any other way of immediately erasing this shame from the national memory of our country??

If you have another idea, then propose it NOW—Those of us who still have a moral commitment to our fellow Jews and countrymen must finally do something to end the suffering!!!
