No place to hide
“It will never happen to me”
“And certainly not here”,
We smugly think, as we drive our shiny cars into our close circuited camera lined office complexes
Nestled in industrial zones, much like the
Barkan Depot.
But that couldn’t be farther from the truth
Because a young mom, like myself,
Just a girl waiting to take the bar,
Dropped off her baby at his maon, probably rushing, to make her 9 hours at
Work.
Maybe she didn’t even get to give him a kiss because they grabbed him so quickly from her arms, and besides, it would smudge her
Lipstick.
Did she drive to work, envisioning his dimpled grin, as she fiddled with the tunes on her radio? Finding that perfect song to herald her arrival into the
Office?
And had she had her coffee yet? Had she booted up her computer and tingled with the excitement of a new day – grateful to be at work, but also counting down the hours until she could once again embrace her
Husband
And
Baby.
Disbelief.
Like an episode of the Fauda she most likely watched on Netflix, cuddled up next to her husband after a long day at
Alon Group.
No knife. No exposed shopping mall. No mace to whip out.
Just a gun, and handcuffs, and so much
Hate.
Pleading. Bargaining. All the while
Knowing
That her cries would fall on deaf ears-
That her mention of a husband, a son, a family, a future-
Would just serve to further motivate the evil
Which he carried out
With no remorse.
A young father, a rising accountant. Brutally murdered in cold blood in the least likely
Place.
At
His
Desk.
Where he surely had a picture of his smiling wife
And twin daughters- the same age as my own
And bouncing baby boy
Just like his
Co-worker.
Did they have meetings scheduled? Did he have a chance to scroll through Facebook to get his morning news?
Never knowing that he would be the news they’d be reading about.
There is no more
Innocence
No more
Safe
No more
“It will never happen to me”
“And certainly not here”.

May Hashem avenge the brutal murders of Kim Levengrond Yehezkel and Ziv Hagbi, and may their memories be for a blessing.
