O’ Poland

Falling memories rain through the tormented cracks
as I lie down on these death camp barracks
Of blood soaked horror filled wood
which the Polish government says I could have stopped if only I had would. If only I had would.

Twenty four thousand a day became ashes
Through gas, fire, lead and lashes.
Six Million of us, Five Million of them
The Five Million helpless non-Jews will you also condemn?

You tell me how a million and half children at their mother’s breast
Could fight the monsters that wore Jew hatred murdering German, Ukranian and Polish dress?

Three million Jews were murdered in one Polish state
And now will you brush them away to a whitewash fate?
Should we whitewash the crying blood of the Five Million and all those throughout history
and just say, “Oh my. Genocide. It is a just human mystery?”

True honor is to admit one’s responsibility
It is the True Warrior sense of nobility.
The Germans faced the mirror. Will Poland now lose its credibility.
Arise O’Poland to the hour or your denial will never give you tranquility.

Rabbi Avi Schwartz is an individual who has made contributions in various fields. He is the son of Motke Eish HaGarzen, also known as Motke the Axeman, a legendary figure in the Palmach.
