Obama, Democrats think Jews care only about money

A high-profile email circulated this week from the Obama campaign to supporters attacks Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire entrepreneur. David Axelrod, Obama’s campaign manager, says Adelson is supporting Romney only because of tax issues, claiming “According to a new report from the Center for American Progress Action Fund, Adelson could see up to $2 billion in savings under Mitt Romney’s tax plan versus the President’s plan.” The email doesn’t mention Adelson’s biggest reason in life for being – and his clearest reasons for opposing Obama – his love for the Jewish people and vast desire to help Israel and the Jews.

The Obama fundraising email is consistent with a statement Nancy Pelosi, the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives made in July 2012: “Republicans are using Israel as an excuse, what they really want are tax cuts for the wealthy. So Israel — that can be one reason they put forth.” Pelosi then said Jews who vote Republicans are “being exploited.” Pelosi said Republican Jews use Israel as an “excuse” for criticizing Obama – and in fact only want tax cuts for the wealthy.

Read these statements by top Democratic officials, and realize the Democrats are saying Jews care only about money. Imagine if Romney and his proxies said “Blacks are Democrats because they are poor and want welfare.” Such a statement would be offensive and condemned widely, as it should be – but Axelrod, Pelosi and the Obama campaign saying Jews only want money and don’t care about Israel is accepted Democratic policy.

Clearly these offensive statements are consistent with the Obama campaign’s continued anti-Israel record, as, naturally, Republican Jews, like many others, vote and donate for many different reasons. Sheldon Adelson, Irving Moskowitz, and other Jewish mega-funders have said the reason they support Romney is because they support Israel. The Obama Administration is the worst Israel has ever faced.

Adelson’s driving force is the survival of the United States and Israel in the face of an Iranian nuclear weapon. Sheldon Adelson has given $100 Million to Birthright Israel, $25 million to Yad Vashem, and his family foundation donates more than $200 million to Jewish causes annually – Yet, the Obama campaign will have you know the Jews care only about money.

These patronizing and insulting comments that Jews only care about money are offensive and diminish the importance of issues affecting Jews everywhere. Shame on the Obama campaign.
