On the league of trembling Israelites

Administration fellow, Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew, a Jew, was booed.

By fellow Jews. At a Jewish event!

And Jews criticized those booing Jews.

Am I alone in feeling upset at this behavior … of Jews criticizing Jews?

How come I have the feeling that only Jews can dirty their underwear in embarrassment over what other Jews do, not like others who booed even Obama to his face.

Or at an event here, by fellow African-Americans.  He also was booed, and cheered, at a basketball game, with family present.
Even Michelle was heckled several times.

What is it with Jews, that they tremble?

Remember the way Menachem Begin, in the presence of visiting President Jimmy Carter, was barracked by MK Geula Cohen, his speech interrupted repeatedly by members of the right (and the Communist party as well), and MK Geula Cohen was removed from the chamber?  Joking about democracy being so lively in Israel?

Have they lost inner strength to be real and genuine?

Reminds me what I was told by Malvyn Benjamin of Herut UK when I was Betar’s emmisary there during 1975-1977 about the peculiar characteristic of British Jewish establishment figures.  They were members of the “League of Trembling Israelites” he phrased it.  Others may refer to them as the Jews of Discomfort.

Of course, J Street and Peter Beinart could comfort Lew and the President by saying that these Jews are a minority and don’t represent what they claim is the majority of American Jews: liberal, progressive, etc. etc. They could, however, be wrong and maybe the catcalls should be taken as a wake-up rousing.

In any case, those booers of the booers?  They embarrass me.
