One of These Things Just Doesn’t Belong

I pulled into the parking lot, backing in as I always do, and suddenly the beeping started.

I looked at the reverse camera and didn’t see anything—there was still plenty of space between me and the wall.
I tried backing up a little more, but the beeping only got louder.

So I got out of the car to check, and that’s when I saw it… a sink.

Why is there a sink in the middle of a parking garage?

And then I remembered.

The parking garage at this large hospital is now once again serving as a parking garage. However, whenever there are threats of missle attacks, the parking lot is closed and becomes a shelter. Every parking space becomes a patient’s room.

Every parking spot painted on the floor once held a hospital bed.

There are sinks. There are doctors’ offices.

There are signs for all the equipment doctors and nurses use to provide patient care.

The equipment has been put away, and the patients have returned to their regular wards.

But we won’t forget it anytime soon. Everyone who walked past me was trying to figure out why I was taking pictures of the parking garage… It’s one of those things that we need to see, lest we forget.

May we never have to use it for that purpose again, God willing.
