Only Six Shekels Left

Peek A Boo…Can you find my husband in the background? This is our favorite Falafel and more for only 18 Shekel!

Friday is such an amazing day in Israel. It is a day off work and school for many, so you see people either running around getting ready for Shabbat or lounging all over the city eateries. We are walking distance from everything, so our destination was Shuk Mahane Yehuda market for the last minute herbs for Shabbat.

While walking there I saw a soldier putting on Tefilin, and learned from my husband that you can put it on before sundown anytime. It was very busy, and we needed some last minute essentials, like ice trays. I was born in the former Soviet Union, and most people from that region do not like ice for cultural and superstitious reasons. Maybe in sub zero temperatures it made sense not to have ice because it can make your throat hurt, and make sure to wear a scarf. Most importantly always wear slippers, or you can catch a cold, and yeah last but not least, do not sit on anything cold, especially if you are a woman.

Back to Jerusalem, we went to a few stores and realized that in the Shuk, we could not use a credit card and only had six shekels in our pocket. Usually at the end of the day the prices drop, and the herbs are sold in single bunches, I had a feeling we would have enough to buy what we needed. We went to our favorite produce guy, and can you believe it, dill cost three shekel and cilantro cost three shekel. Miracles like this happen every moment in Israel.

We were hungry, so we stopped by our favorite and best priced Jerusalem Shwarma on Agripas for Falafel in Pita. There are so many delicious choices, highly recommended when you come to visit.

This was our first Shabbat back home in Jerusalem, and it was so peaceful and relaxing. For some reason the jetlag really got to all of us. It is such a blessing to have a day where there are no to do lists, places to be, or even happy things like calls with friends. I love that nobody calls me, and there is no energy out. We did have guests for Shabbat day, my husband’s best friend and family from his childhood in the Golan. It was so delicious and fun, and I took the best nap of my life afterwards. I was excited that my Rambam class, that I started taking six months ago, was back to it’s original summer time, right before Shabbat ends down the street from me at the Chabad of Rehavia.

Now back to the grind, have to get focused and get to work on our new non profit, www.shaylechayal.org. I am also starting a Pilates/Yoga mix in the new community I created online at www.nas.io/coach-yulia. Only $18 a month for classes, challenges and one on one coaching.

Chodesh Tov!
