Once again I want to focus on the Blog written by Rabbi Jonathan Sacks about Parshat בא in the Hebrew year of 5777, mentioned previously.
The first paragraph reads as follows-
It is no accident that Parshat Bo, the section that deals with the culminating plagues and the Exodus, should turn three times to the subject of children and the duty of parents to educate them. As Jews, we believe that to defend a country you need an army, but to defend a civilisation you need education. Freedom is lost when it is taken for granted. Unless parents hand on their memories and ideals to the next generation — the story of how they won their freedom and the battles they had to fight along the way — the long journey falters and we lose our way.
Our Children Must Constantly Be Reminded Of The Holocaust – President Biden Must-Have Agreed
In my previous Blog, while in Israel and standing next to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Vice President Biden said that he made the time and effort to bring his late son Beau’s two children to Dachau.
Dachau (/ˈdɑːxaʊ/) was the first Nazi concentration camp opened on 22 March 1933, which was initially intended to hold political prisoners. It is located on the grounds of an abandoned munitions factory northeast of the medieval town of Dachau, about 16 km (10 mi) northwest of Munich in the state of Bavaria, in southern Germany. After its opening by Heinrich Himmler, its purpose was enlarged to include forced labor, and, eventually, the imprisonment of Jews, Romani, German and Austrian criminals, and finally foreign nationals from countries that Germany occupied or invaded. The Dachau camp system grew to include nearly 100 sub-camps, which were mostly work camps or Arbeitskommandos, and were located throughout southern Germany and Austria. The main camp was liberated by U.S. forces on 29 April 1945.
Prisoners lived in constant fear of brutal treatment and terror detention including standing cells, floggings, the so-called tree or pole hanging, and standing at attention for extremely long periods. There were 32,000 documented deaths at the camp, and thousands that are undocumented.
Shocking Pictures From Dachau I Will Never Forget
I previously said that as a young boy I would watch WWII TV documentaries with my father. At the time, I can remember certain pictures that stood out in my mind being primary examples of the suffering those Jewish victims went through. Those images never left me and as I was researching materials for this Blog, I suddenly realized those images most likely came from Dachau among others. It brought back terrible memories that will never be erased for the rest of my life.
I saw human beings after liberation being reduced to walking skeletons. I remember as if it were yesterday seeing bodies of Jewish victims being transported for proper burial. I saw many pictures of human corpses lying motionless on streets, some in awkward positions which could have meant they were executed on the spot. And the list goes on and on.
Therefore Biden’s Extended Delay In Contacting Bibi Makes No Sense
Today, it is easy for readers to view the awful and shocking pictures from Dachau by going to the following link which connects you to the Memorial Site-
If Biden had spent a reasonable amount of time with Beau’s children there, then he should have been horrified by what he saw. Those memories should still be with him today and one would have expected at the very least for Biden to have been in contact with Bibi a short time after the election.
But let’s put aside all of the facts that should have motivated Biden to phone Bibi soon after he was elected. Now that former President Trump’s impeachment trial has started, Biden has no excuse to delay calling Bibi any longer.
According to various news reports I have seen, it appears Congress is expected to be devoting a vast majority of its time to the impeachment trial, which should leave Biden with an ample amount of free time to place that call.
Biden’s Delay Is Already Sending A Very Disturbing Message To American Jewry
The fact that Biden is immediately attempting to renew ties with the Palestinians and not even picking up the phone to speak to Bibi is bad enough.
But the Trump administration helped get the ball rolling for Arab countries to make peace with Israel. The way Biden is acting, it seems he has no interest in carrying on with this process.
