Peace, Pardon, and Palestine
President Donald Trump has made numerous comments referring to a pardon for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding his corruption trial. President Trump first made a comment using his Truth Social Network, back in June 2025. Then again during his speech when he was invited to speak at the Knesset in Jerusalem in October. In November, President Trump sent President Isaac Herzog a letter asking that he consider giving a pardon for Netanyahu. Lastly, he made a statement at the end of 2025 saying a pardon is on its way.
With the Prime Ministers upcoming trip to the United States and meeting with the president, plus the upcoming AIPAC conference, this wont be the last time we will hear from President Trump regarding a pardon for Prime Minister Netanyahu.
Why is the President of the United States so interested in the legal affairs of an elected leader in an independent country? Why does he need the Prime Minister to be free of his court cases?
President Trump wants to be the one to achieve a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians. He wants to show the world that where everyone else had failure, he had success. Maybe even receive a Nobel Peace Prize for it.
Within President Trumps Gaza Peace Plan, it refers to a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood.
President Trump knows that there is only one politician in Israel that will be able to sign a peace deal that will create the state of Palestine. That politician is Benjamin Netanyahu. He needs the Prime Minster to stay in office. He needs him to achieve this.
If Netanyahu remains Prime Minster, he will be able to have enough votes for the two state deal to pass the Knesset. His Likud party will vote for it. The two Haredi parties will either vote or abstain as long as the draft law and budget money for them is unchanged. The opposition parties will vote for it. The only party that will not vote for it is the Religious Zionist party.
However, if the Prime Minister loses this title, all bets are off. If Netanyahu is back in the opposition, he will do everything to torpedo the deal. Most likely, the Knesset will dissolve early and the vote would not even occur.
Everything President Trump has done has also been for the benefit of strengthening Benjamin Netanyahu. All the meetings at the White House, supporting Israel’s actions in the war on Hamas in Gaza, supporting and then joining in the Israel attacks against Iran last June. Even now, with all the tough talk and possible military against Iran again. This all has to do with the greater plan for President Trump and that is to be one to finally solve the “Ultimate Deal” and achieve peace in the middle east with the State of Israel and State of Palestine living side by side.
