Prayer -An Examination of Our Souls_ Torah Portion- Vayikra

The offerings in the Sanctuary

Are substituted with daily prayers.

The “Olah”, consumed completely by fire,

Is a prayer to nullify ourselves.

The “Shlamim” offering brings forward

Gratitude prayers for all we receive.

To ensure we share the material goods

In G-d’s presence with those in our midst.

The “Chatat” offerings for forgiveness

Have become prayers of remorse for shame,

Felt for infliction of sadness and pain,

Rather than love of our neighbor as ourselves.

To walk in God’s ways is to ensure

We pursue justice and bestow mercy.

Prayer is an audit of our souls,

Of its balance sheet of thoughts, words and deeds.
