Pre-Rosh Hashanah Celebration with Grupo Chaverim

In August, Grupo Chaverim hosted a Pre-Rosh Hashanah celebration for the NGO’s beneficiaries—affectionately called “friends”—along with their families, supporters, staff, and volunteers at Clube Hebraica in the Pinheiros neighborhood of São Paulo, Brazil. The afternoon was filled with connection, friendship, and joy, as around 120 guests marked the transition into another Jewish year through speeches, rituals, and interactive activities.

Grupo Chaverim (meaning “friends” in Hebrew) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering socialization among people with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities. The group creates opportunities for autonomy, strengthens emotional bonds, and builds pathways toward greater independence, belonging, and social participation—always respecting the individuality of each participant.

After welcoming guests, the founders and board members delivered speeches highlighting the NGO’s more than 30 years of history and the achievements of the past year. Musicians on keyboard and vocals accompanied Jewish rituals related to Rosh Hashanah, including the sounding of the shofar, a traditional symbol of the holiday. Madrichim (monitors) who work with the organization on weekends led an interactive activity in which each table represented a month of the Jewish calendar. The celebration concluded with a lively Harkadá, a traditional circle dance.

This Rosh Hashanah, Grupo Chaverim partnered with ADGifts (@adgifts_) to launch a special holiday collection. Each gift carries warmth and tradition while making a difference. The collection includes Judaica items for ceremonies or daily use, as well as video-format e-cards. Every gift is both a way to celebrate the new year and a contribution to a future of greater friendship, inclusion, and opportunity.
