Radicalism Is the Enemy of Israel—and of Civilization Itself
In every generation, societies are tested not only by external enemies but by the corrosive force of radicalism. Radicalism, wherever it emerges, is the language of absolutism and intolerance. It erases nuance, silences compromise, and exalts violence as a solution. For Israel, radicalism is not an abstract problem. It is a lived reality – on the battlefield, in the halls of the Knesset, and in the global discourse that too often rewards shrill voices over responsible ones.
The Global Assault
Around the world, radicals have weaponized Israel as their stage. In Tehran, a regime built on fundamentalism pours its national wealth into sponsoring terror while its citizens suffer under crushing poverty. In Gaza, Hamas has turned radicalism into a governing principle, preferring perpetual war and martyrdom over even a glimmer of prosperity or peace for its people. On Western campuses and city streets, the language of radical ideology has migrated into slogans that demand Israel’s eradication, stripping history and humanity down to a caricature of villain and victim.
This is radicalism’s trademark: the refusal to see human beings. Israel becomes a symbol, Jews become an abstraction, and truth is buried under chants designed to inflame, not to inform. From London to New York to Sydney, these movements do not advocate justice but chaos, not peace but polarization.
The Internal Threat
Yet Israel must also face a harder truth: radicalism is not only imported from abroad. It has taken root at home as well. Within Israel, political and religious extremists insist that their vision alone defines the Jewish state. Some seek to dismantle democratic checks and balances, others weaponize religion for political gain, and still others stoke division in a society that has survived precisely because of its diversity and resilience.
Israel’s miracle has never been born of absolutism. It has been born of balance – between past and future, faith and reason, survival and democracy. When radicals, of any persuasion, undermine that balance, they do more to endanger Israel’s future than any foreign enemy.
The Nature of Radicalism
What unites radicals across the spectrum is not ideology but mentality. Radicals thrive on purity tests. They demand loyalty without question, frame every debate as existential, and dismiss compromise as betrayal. In this worldview, opponents are not neighbors or fellow citizens but enemies to be crushed.
Radicalism, in this sense, is not only anti-Israel. It is anti-human. It denies the possibility of dialogue, erases the legitimacy of difference, and narrows the human story to a single, suffocating narrative.
The Path of Responsibility
To reject radicalism is not to embrace weakness. On the contrary, moderation is the highest form of strength. It requires courage to see complexity, discipline to govern responsibly, and moral clarity to recognize the humanity of the “other” without abandoning one’s own values.
Israel has survived not because of its radicals but despite them. Its endurance comes from citizens – Jews, Muslims, Druze, Christians, immigrants from every continent – who have chosen to build something together rather than destroy. That quiet determination, not the noise of extremists, is what sustains the state and gives hope to the Jewish people.
The world, too, must stop indulging the dangerous romance of extremism. Whether cloaked in revolutionary slogans or nationalist fervor, radicals offer only destruction. They do not represent the future. They represent the unraveling of civilization.
Israel’s story is one of resilience and renewal. The Jewish people know what happens when radicals are allowed to dominate the stage of history. That is why Israel, and all who value human dignity, must reject radicalism – whether it marches in foreign streets, plots in hostile regimes, or shouts within Israel’s own borders.
Radicals destroy. Builders endure. And the task of our time is to stand firmly with the builders.
