Rahm Emanuel Visits Israel
The visit of Rahm Emanuel is only second in importance to the defeat of the Coalition and Likud in the upcoming election, and I’m afraid the Israelis don’t understand him. It may be that we’re tired or the smart ones have already left, but never before has there been a Jew more qualified with the truth and yet Israelis may not be listening.
Even High Tech and our scientific genius will not protect a tiny insignificant pariah from the second crucifixion of Christ..that is how our opponents see:the rejection of Western law tradition values when they in spite of intense political pressure they had given us a State, and with patience watched as we prospered and disappointed them. Since W.W.I the Wilson Doctrine, that no people should be denied self-determination, has been the morality of civilized people.
So many Israelis can’t live with this and Rahm Emanuel is saying, for the last time, there’s no alternative; if the Jews are entitled to a State, why not the Palestinians? I can’t deny to others the same equal station. The Labor Party understood this and it was with this gentleman’s agreement that we are here. The Likud was conceived for all of ancient Israel and I can feel this longing but only up to a certain point: when I have to admit the blood the wounds in which we sit cannot go on. Obviously many still believe the ‘chosen people’ have a separate destiny, they cling to this religiously politically diplomatically and we can only hope they lose the next election. The world since October 7 tells us we have to find another way, and Rahm Emanuel emphasizes that we were offered alternatives and wasted them.
Rahm Emanuel is trying to hold together the Democratic Party that we have always known, where Jews have a home, their only social home, influence, and recognition. Jewish Americans are rejecting Israel because they are no longer proud of us. But Rahm Emanuel believes we can regain their confidence and our Democracy by reconnecting with the Liberal principles of our beginnings: equality of all peoples, negotiation etc. for no American, European Party or country can protect us, befriend us as long as we behave totalitarian and fascist….ignoring the basic democratic rules in running a country.
The Republican Party whose supporters are Jewish are mainly orthodox Jews. Haaretz told us the monies and brains for the Coalition’s attack on the Judiciary came from them, America’s Jewish billionaires; if this is true what next is in store for us? Rahm Emanuel’s family is Israeli, Zionist and privy to the heart of our situation; so with regret we hear, though his love for the Jewish people is constant, no longer can he support Israel as it is today. Neither as a Jew nor a Democrat
