Reflecting on Reserve Duty. Twenty-One Months on the Gaza Front
As I reflect on my reserve duty, twenty-one months on the Gaza front, the weight of time and sacrifice hangs heavy in the air. What began as a commitment to serve as a combat medic in the IDF, despite being aged out, has evolved into a prolonged journey of resilience and endurance. As I prepare to mark my second birthday in the army, the reality of our prolonged presence in the face of the Hamas terror regime’s grip on Gaza, and there still being fifty remaining hostages (both dead and alive) in the terror tunnels, feels both surreal and daunting.
The men and women of my Palmar (medical combat evacuation unit), whose lives have been put on hold for nearly two years, stand as a testament to the enduring spirit of selflessness and sacrifice. Mothers and fathers on the home front have heroically shouldered the burden of single parenthood, reservists have grappled with maintaining their livelihoods, and students have deferred their studies in the pursuit of a greater cause. The sacrifices made by all, from the serving reservists to the evacuated civilians, underscore the profound impact of this prolonged conflict on every facet of life in this country.

What continues to astound me is the unwavering commitment and motivation displayed by all who serve, despite the hardships and challenges we face. The desire to free our hostages and eradicate the evil of Hamas serves as a driving force behind our collective efforts, propelling us forward in the face of adversity and uncertainty. The sacrifices made by innocent families, soldiers, and civilians alike weigh heavily on our hearts, a constant reminder of the price paid for our freedom.
Amidst the physical and emotional toll of war, the resilience and unity of the IDF troops, representing a diverse tapestry of backgrounds and beliefs, stand as a beacon of hope and strength. The dark forces that seek to erase the Jewish State from existence have only strengthened our resolve to defend our homeland, our heritage, and our future. In a time when the very existence of the Jewish people is threatened, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside thousands of brave men and women in defence of our collective destiny.

As we navigate these historic times, I am reminded of the profound significance of our actions in shaping the future of the Jewish people. With each day of service, each sacrifice made, we are not only defending our present but also laying the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. I am deeply honoured and stand united with my fellow soldiers, driven by a shared commitment to protect our children, our homeland, and the enduring legacy of the Jewish people.
