Report from Palm Beach
The annual David Horowitz Freedom Center, a conservative foundation founded in 1988, “Restoration Weekend” in Palm Beach, FL (November 14-17) just concluded.
The Freedom Center supports Front Page Magazine, Truth Revolt, Discover the Networks, Students for Academic Freedom, Wednesday Morning Club, Jihad Watch, Individual Rights Foundation.
Restoration Weekend is exactly as named. It is an opportunity for conservatives to gather and “restore” their spirits and educational storage cells after another twelve months barrage by mainstream news.
Included on the roster of speakers were Katie Hopkins (UK), Geert Wilders (Netherlands), Colonel Richard Kemp (UK), Don Bognino, author, Charlie Kirk of “Turning Point U.S.A.”, James O’Keefe of “Project Veritas”, Ben Tabatabaei, international economist, Diamond and Silk, video bloggers, etc.
Many of the presenters at Restoration Weekend spoke about Israel, its accomplishments, military and strategic significance to the region, the changing Middle East alliances.
Included among the speakers were Caroline Glick, Yishai Fleisher and Daniel Greenfield.
Glick, senior columnist at Breitbart News, writer for Jerusalem Post and Israel Hayom addressed modern Israel politics. Among other things, she described those seeking to unseat Netanyahu as aligning themselves with Hamas in order to gain power. The hundreds of Americans present in the sunny Palm Beach ballroom must have wondered (I know I did) “How will America be able to share military intelligence with an Israel that is in bed with Hamas?”
Yishai Fleisher, international spokesperson for the Jewish community of Hebron and weekly podcaster on The Land of Israel Network, producer and narrator of entertaining videos about Israel’s treasures, addressed the Restoration Weekend attendees as well.
He did not speak about Roman glass, Bar Kochba coins or newly uncovered mosaics. He spoke about reclaiming “the narrative”, about Israel, about staying on message. That the land belongs to Israel. Historically. Politically. That Israel didn’t displace anyone.
And then there was writer, Daniel Greenfield. No one can touch Greenfield for insight, originality and lightning wit. He is a modern day Mark Twain. He has a non-demonstrative delivery and yet every word lands a punch.
Yes, the El Al Dreamliner now flies four times a week from Miami to Tel Aviv but Americans Zionists may see something that some citizens of Israel may fail to see.
(As the saying goes, “A visitor from a distance sees afar.”)
Civil conflict between brothers destabilizes and destroys a nation.
Think all of the siblings leading up to Deuteronomy, including Cain and Abel, Ishmael and Isaac, Esau and Jacob, Joseph and his bothers. Korach (he was a cousin).
You’ve been warned.
