Roger Waters leave Hyde Park alone
On the 6th July 2018, one day before the memorial of 7/7, Roger Waters will be performing in Hyde Park sponsored by Barclaycard as part of the BST Barclaycard series of music events.
Roger Waters has been openly condemned by the ADL (Anti Defamation League) as anti-Semitic . In an open letter in 2013 (see below):
Jewish organisations across the world have condemned Roger Waters of abhorrent behaviour with regards to the Jewish community
“His vile messages of anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism and hatred are not welcome in our community,” said a statement from the Greater Miami Jewish Federation”
“Mr. Waters, stop openly calling for support of a cultural boycott of Israel,” it added.
In 2013, the Anti-Defamation League, having previously defended Waters against charges of anti-Semitism, acknowledged that “anti-Semitic conspiracy theories” have “seeped into the totality” of the former Pink Floyd frontman’s views.
The bassist and vocalist, an outspoken critic of Israel, is known for publicly harassing artists scheduled to visit the country or perform there. His latest target was Radiohead, scheduled to perform in Israel next week. But the band pushed back. It rejected a letter aimed at pressuring it into canceling — signed by dozens of artists, and spearheaded by Waters and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement — and called the criticism “patronizing in the extreme.”
Roger Waters, was also condemned for using a giant, pig-shaped balloon emblazoned with a Star of David and symbols of dictatorial regimes during a concert in Belgium. He was singing on stage on July 20 2013 under the balloon while toting a machine gun replica and wearing a long black leather jacket with a red-and-white arm band, reminiscent of a Nazi uniform.
His constant continuation of harassing musicians and artists and entertainers from playing in Israel goes against the norm of a workable peace process in the Middle East where many top musicians have played in Israel and by entwining anti-Semitic imagery amongst his show, can not be acceptable in London .
It was only a few months ago that Sadiq Khan Mayor of London called told us that London is an inclusive city and everybody is welcome .
We welcome into London entertainers from all over the world, but someone who continues to parade his anti-Semitic wares that is highly offensive to the Jewish community can not be tolerated .
The highest rate of anti-Semitism that we seen since the Second World War, this form of hatred cannot be tolerated.
If Amber Rudd MP The Home Secretary who stated that anti-Semitism has no place in Great Britain is diverse and tolerant society will put her words into action, then pressure must be mounted against the sponsors and the organisers of this event
We call upon the organisers and sponsors of this event to pull Roger Waters from Hyde Park in London.
