Sexism at the Democratic debate and campaign must be called out for what it is

Mayor Pete trashed Amy who replied: Are you implying that I’m stupid?

Elizabeth Warren stood up for Senator Klobuchar. She never misses a beat when it concerns sexism, but she still doesn’t label it sexism. The first attack she just characterized as inappropriate. I call both attacks sexist.

And when Amy said that a big statement against sexism was electing a woman as president she was wrong, unfortunately. Why?

Under Obama, racism actually agreed. He had to be color-neutral as the president of all. Under the most pro-Israel president ever, antisemitism increased. Under a woman as president, sexism will increase.

That means that we need to learn to call it out for what it is. Pete would never have attacked Joe on forgetting a name. But Amy is free for all?

Yes, also gay men need to learn to guard themselves against sexism. Let’s not forget that Pete could run for president but his husband Chester not — because he’s not macho enough. Let’s not blame Pete for that, but still hold him to not picking on women because it feels so safe or natural to do.

And yes, leftwing politicians are more prone to speak bigoted because they know so well how right they are; but they must watch their bigotry. Or they would say things that polite right-wingers would never say openly.

(Activists off-mike toward the end screamed about immigration reform.)

I waited for the next debate to see if this poor attitude toward women would repeat but I didn’t see it, besides the men being very aggressive to the point of Amy’s neighbors shouting at each other becoming oblivious to Amy’s presence. Elizabeth Warren even started talking like Amy, that she wants to unify the nation, that she doesn’t just talks but gets things done.

BTW: How shameful that the only ones left in the race are all Caucasian and the women are at the bottom of the list, becoming token females.

And it’s not only the Democratic candidates. Also influential left-wing male comedians (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Seth Meyers, but also Full Frontal with Samantha Bee) have a much easier time imitating Bernie and Donald than Amy and Elizabeth. Though maybe not on purpose.

Yang, Buttigieg, Klobuchar have now given up, the latter two to give Biden a more solid chance against Sanders. Candidates may come and go but the issue of fighting sexism is not going anywhere. Happy Super Tuesday!

Many of his posts relate to affairs from the news or the Torah Portion of the Week or are new insights that suddenly befell him. * He hopes that his words will inspire and inform, reassure the doubters but make the self-assured doubt more. He strives to bring a fresh perspective rather than bore you with the obvious. He doesn't expect his readers to agree. Rather, original minds must be disputed. He had three times 9-out-of-10 for Dutch at his high school finals but is spending his days communicating in English and Hebrew - how ironic. G-d must have a fine sense of humor. In case you wonder - yes, he is a bit dyslectic. November 13, 2018, he published his 500st blog post with the ToI.
