The Blogs: Shofar: Portal to Creation

Shalom from Los Angeles. I am celebrating the Jewish holidays with my family and community. The Torah is deep. Are you ready? My friend Yoram P. described the Shofar so specifically, I hope I can do it justice. We are going to go to the story of Yakov’s ladder, when he laid down his head “ROSH,” and went to sleep, in Hebrew the letters are the same root as “HASHANA.” What does the ladder represent? I am just going to tell you, so many holy descriptions, yet if you are musical, it is clear it is the music bar. We all have a song, if you read the book of Joshua, you understand this concept, how he stopped the song of the sun. Similar to how nature was interrupted when the Hebrews were running from the Egyptians and the sea split. Everything in nature has a song, each being has a song. Maybe for souls, the songs evolve, change, morph and flow.

Let us get back to the Shofar. What is the shape? Narrow where you create the tune, and gets wider where you hear the sound. Everything for me is a birth analogy, as a Doula, creation is a process that I am humbled to witness. So what is the sound we hear? When labor begins, the womb opening is starting to expand from 1-10 centimeters. Once the baby emerges, you hear the cry, just like a shofar. Our soul releases to our creator, that we need him and we want him, and creation continues. What does that mean? I have never heard this explained before, how Hashem hesitates to continue creation, on Erev Rosh Hashana, Mendel Zajac taught last Shabbat at SOLA Chabad. Once the Shofar sounds, our cry, need and desire awakens the continuation of every moment of creation.

I am a performance artist, however drawing, painting and anything made by hand, I meet with resistance. I did not study art, and of course I understand that it is objective and unique from every artist, yet the process and technique is foreign to me. My perfectionism does not want to do it wrong, and there is a feeling of tension, not fun at all. One person has changed that experience for me, Nechama of @intent_living talked about my favorite theme, creation a few days ago, which is the day that Hashem began to create the world. Did you know that Rosh Hashana celebrates the day mankind was created? So there are five days before that, and of course after is Shabbat, the day of rest. It was so simple to understand, follow and execute. I am in awe of how it came out of me. Everyone was choosing special words, I want to write my children’s names, in essence, they are my world.

I am in labor, figuratively, and I feel peace in the unknown. I know it is not up to me, I love that it is out of my control, and that it is all in the hands of God. Even so, there are so many babies right now, and once again not literally. There are six projects that are blooming as we speak, I have been a Doula for business coaching, movie making, and event planning. Everybody that I have met in the last two years, are part of the puzzle, and the connections are mind blowing. The pieces are a perfect fit, everything is a Shidduch and Bshaa Tova. The right fit at the right time.

In Chassidut, we learn about allowing ourselves to be a vessel, and to hold the divine light that is brought down into our unique mission and purpose in this world. I am breathing, praying, and accepting that my time is now. I have had my fun, raised my kids, and now is time to build.
