Sing it sister!

The biblical Song of the Sea shows that true freedom comes when we can raise our voices in rightful raucous [VIDEO]

You know what they say, ‘It ain’t over til the fat lady sings’…Well, when it comes to leaving Egypt y’all, it ain’t over til Miriam and her women sing (…and woe to anyone who calls them fat. Zaftig, maybe, but never fat).

This is a grand historic moment, friends. The Netivot Shalom says that this is the first time in history that anyone has ever busted out in song of praise to G!d. Abraham didn’t do it, or Jacob or any of the holy folks who precede Moses and Miriam. This is something new and wondrous.

And it’s no coincidence that the song comes at the culmination of the entire trek to freedom. Because self-expression is really the hallmark of ultimate freedom.

What’s more, this sea-side celebration is the great battle cry of Kabbalistic feminists the world over. It is said that when Miriam and her women broke out in their swaggered song & dance they attained a revelation higher than even Moses the great prophet. This is a defining moment for female expression!

This Shvi Shel Pesach, may we attain this level of freedom in the form of free-flowing creative expression. May we overflow like a full-on musical and be not afraid to break out in sacred spectacles to celebrate our freedom!

Sisters, raise your voices in rightful raucous!
Beat drum, sing song and stun anyone
who ever called you too timid to sing!

For here by the sea, we are held responsible to sing
of the God-drenched things that we have seen.

This is why we wear our drums
ready on our shoulder blades.
Ready to up and utter unabashed riffs of praise.

For we handmaids have a mandate to hand-make
our own music, to move muscles
and meet quotas of creative output
to sway & swoon – on sand-dunes undone by a tune

For the Spirit alone instructs our lips and
limbs as to the allowance of their bend
and propriety is defined by the prophetess who abides within.

It is she who launches her loudest campaign
for you to stand and dance majestic
on YOUR life’s well-sanded stage.

So let us ignite each other’s dormant scorch of dreams.
and together we will choreograph a song & dance

the world has never seen…
