Speak up!

Here in the United States, news has come out accusing Harvey Weinstein of sexually harassing females. Weinstein is a studio head with immense power. He is accused of this behavior for DECADES, and some of the victims are high profile actresses.

What is shocking to me is not how longer the length of time this went on , but the fact that no one spoke up for his victims. I am sure someone either saw something or heard something during all this time, but no one spoke up.

Powerful men have a free pass when it comes to women. They think they can say or do anything and get away with it. The sad truth is they do. The victims are scared to come forward because they will not be believed. Those that know further victimize the victims because they don’t say anything.

As a child, I was sexually abused by three different men. It went in for over 15 years. I was threatened with the “No one will believe you” and the “people will think you are bad.” the most horrible part was the adults who knew what was going on and said and did nothing. That was just as bad as the abuse.

If you are being sexually harassed or abused, it is NEVER your fault. The fault lies with the abuser. If you know someone is being sexually harassed or abused, speak out. Help the victim. Stop the silence.
