Staging an Unsustainable Ceasefire

Because no effective concept against hostage-taking1) has been developed in decades, around 3,000 terrorists are now being released from Israeli prisons in exchange for 98 hostages2) – an encouragement to continue.

But the Islamists’ goal is not a Palestinian state on the approximately 6,000 square kilometers of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Even it’s not mainly about the 27,000 sqkm of entire Palestine demanded by Hamas under annihilation of Israel. Rather, the goal is the Islamization of all countries of the Judeo-Christian cultural area. Thus, behind the scape goat of West Bank Palestine, a 12.000 times larger area is targeted – over 70,000,000 square kilometers*), more than half of earth’s land surface. Palestine/ Israel serves as a testing ground for destructive strategies and at the same time distracts from the main scene.

The current 5th Middle East war has brought the Islamists a big step forward, but at the price of clearly exposing their insincere allies – the UN, thousands of NGOs, left-wing woke politicians and a media world distorted into a propaganda machine. Once the attacked Israeli painfully realize how much reputation and sympathy they have lost during the 1 ¼ years of simply defending themselves, this is the moment to learn from the disaster. One of the strategies of the Western promoters of Islamism is to lead the free democratic nations on a self-destructive course. But gradually, their insincere actions expose them as false friends.

While the US founding decades witnessed a steep rise of the country to become an admired role model, this success course of peacefully spreading freedom and democracy was abandoned under the presidency of William McKinley (1897–1901). The political program since is characterized by military engagements that run counter to the interests of the free Western nations.

But in the slipstream of uncritical media reporting and, partly, systematic censorship, the MIC militarists were able to keep on this highway to hell. George W. Bush started even two such self-destructing wars: the Afghanistan War (2001-2021) and the Iraq War (2003-2011). As was only revealed later, the disastrously lost Afghanistan war could have been victoriously ended after just two months – but the Bush administration rejected the Taliban’s offer of surrender on December 5, 2001 under the pretext of a minor detail.3)

The Gaza war could also have been stopped in the early stage; a corresponding Russian resolution draft was presented to the UN Security Council on October 16, 2023, but failed mainly due to resistance from the US delegation. The same happened again on October 18 with the similar Brazilian draft. In both cases, in addition to a ceasefire, an immediate release of the hostages was demanded.

But the American rejection of these resolutions, supposedly to protect Israeli interests, actually destroyed this excellent opportunity to exert moral pressure on the terrorists in the only short appropriate time window directly after October 7.

In and after the previous Middle East wars, it was always Israel that was put under extremely unfair pressure by UN resolutions. This systematic bullying has exceeded the limits of what is acceptable with the current absurd accusations of genocide against the Jewish state. The UN has proven to be the main obstacle to a lasting peace in the Middle East. Its immediate and thorough reform has thus become inevitable.4)

Autocratically ambitious forces have succeeded in developing the UN into an instrument against freedom, democracy and responsibility behind a false humanitarian and peace-promoting façade. Thus, the huge reform project is about much more than finding a stable settlement of the Middle East conflict, it is about a sincere, actually sustainable concept for global coexistence.

About the Author
Christian Rudolf Hamann was born in October 1949 in Berlin/ Germany. After having finished school in 1968, he studied Geography, Biology and Politics in Hannover and Mainz till 1973 and then worked as a secondary school teacher until his retirement. Since 2013, he lives alternately in Uruguay and Germany. Throughout his life, he has continued to study independently, especially in the fields of history, politics including sociology, economics and psychology. His credo is that democracy is not a finished model, but a living principle that must be improved in a historically never-ending process and strengthened against the grip of uncontrolled power - namely that of money. History presents itself as evolution (as a composite of biological, technical and socio-organisational evolution), while politics represents its current management. Therefore, especially socio-organisational evolution can only be steered back into stable channels and kept there permanently if political management respects the eternally valid rules of evolution. The simplest and most effective way for the necessary course correction is to detect the increasing violations of these principles.
