Strength in Unity

“We are three countries that are proud of our history. And it is a fact that our countries have a glorious past. Those who believe that they can restore their empire, we tell them that this will not happen. Don’t even think about it. We are determined to defend ourselves. And we are three democracies in the eastern Mediterranean that promote freedom, prosperity and security.”

These are the words of Benjamin Netanyahu at the 10th Trilateral Summit of Greece – Cyprus – Israel in Jerusalem.

I summarize the most important points, in my opinion:

1. A joint commitment to an annual meeting of the three parties.
2. A commitment to supporting the political stability of Lebanon through the involvement of the Greek armed forces in this process.
3. Commitment of all three states to the implementation of the Greece-Cyprus-Israel electrical interconnection project (Great Sea Interconnector – GSI)
4. Joint exercises of the three coast guard forces during 2026.
5. Strengthening defense and military cooperation.
6. Promoting the construction of the India-Eastern Mediterranean-Cyprus-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), combined with the Vertical Corridor of the American LNG starting from Greece.

Given the above, the intention of all three states to deepen their cooperation in the operational 3+1 scheme with the participation of the United States of America is deduced.

The joint declaration, which I quote below, reveals the scope and political will for the creation of an indivisible axis, which even invites third “singulars” if they wish to collaborate, while repelling the revisionists of history.

Behind the lines we see that the reef of the Greece-Cyprus-Israel cable seems to be being overcome with strong will. Personally, I consider the implementation of this project even more important than the formal EEZ declaration.

Given that explicit reference is made to the implementation of the “vision” of the three states through military cooperation, the further forms that this cooperation may take are obviously not communicable, but are already being worked on by the staffs.

The references to Greece’s role in Gaza, which may directly be a role that counterbalances Turkey’s aspirations, are also positive.

In conclusion, a scheme that very timidly and overcoming nationally harmful taboos for Greece, began in 2010, hopefully reached 2025-2026 having borne fruit. The cooperation of Greece-Cyprus-Israel + USA shows that when certain things are not treated narrowly along party and factional lines, they yield the greatest possible benefits. In the times we live in, this has many times more value compared to the times of “innocence”, which have passed irrevocably.
