Structural Collapse: Early Warning Signs

This document presents a sequence of warning signs and critical scenarios indicating a continuous and rapid erosion of the social fabric, public health, and national resilience of the State of Israel. These trends, if not halted immediately, pose a tangible threat to the future of the state and its citizens. We call upon decision-makers to immediately initiate a national emergency project to reverse these trends. We also call upon the citizens to awaken and mobilize the necessary civil initiatives to save the situation. Without a proper response, we must ask whether our children and grandchildren will have a secure and good future here, in this land.

  1. A Dramatic Decline in Academic Excellence: OECD test scores of high school students in Israel are now among the lowest in Europe. This is an extreme emergency signal indicating damage to the foundation of our intellectual capital and our ability to maintain the state’s technological “Edge.” Israel is now producing a new underclass of the undereducated.
  2. Increasing Brain Drain: A worrying trend of negative migration among skilled professionals  – more than 114,000 – signals a regrettable loss of faith in the future and quality of life in Israel.
  3. Disintegration of Law Enforcement in the Periphery: The rise in crime, especially in the Negev within both Arab and Jewish sectors, points to an erosion of sovereignty and personal safety. It should be noted that the Segalovich Plan—the multi-year national plan to combat crime in the Arab sector—has been dismantled by Minister Ben Gvir, leading to a loss of the strategic framework intended to restore order.
  4. Neglect of the Agricultural Economic Infrastructure: Agriculture is the foundation of the Zionist project. Recently, there has been a growing trend of abandoning government support. This decline leads to the dismantling of farms and the abandonment of the North and South, causing a security risk. This mirrors the historical phenomenon associated with the Roman occupation (1st–4th centuries CE), where the Jewish population faced catastrophic events and economic shifts that created a “vicious cycle” of agricultural abandonment, eventually leading to the loss of the land’s productivity and Jewish presence.
  5. Human and Economic Challenges Due to Destruction in the North: Extensive destruction to homes and structures from rocket and anti-tank missile attacks is creating a social and economic crisis. The collapse of community and business infrastructure calls into question the ability to recover.
  6. Violence and the Disintegration of Security Authority in the Shomron: Increasing violence by “Hilltop Youth” towards law enforcement and civilians, which the security establishment struggles to handle, indicates a collapse of authority in sensitive areas.
  7. Increase in Road Fatalities: Israel is the only country in the European Union with an increase in absolute numbers of road fatalities, exacerbated by raised speed limits. While Helsinki, Finland, has reached a vision of zero deaths, Israel must ensure the implementation of the recently presented integrated enforcement plan to curb this trend.
  8. The Conscription Law (Evasion): Shifting the security burden onto a shrinking part of the population accelerates social polarization and undermines the social contract. National service must include all sectors—Jews, Arabs, and others—to ensure a shared future.

Conclusion and Urgent Call to Action

Israel possesses immense human capital and a highly motivated population with tremendous accomplishments in security and technology. However, without preserving excellence, internal resilience, equal sharing of the burden, and government accountability, these achievements will not suffice in a volatile Middle East.

Failure to address these trends is a calculated step toward voluntary self-destruction. We call for the highest levels of leadership to initiate an immediate national emergency project to reverse these trends and prevent the collapse of our social fabric.

The clock is ticking.
