Surrender
There is an important term used in the Mussar books that describe how we are to serve Hashem. We are to do it with הכנעה, which means, surrendering to G-d.
We accept that we are fully prepared to becoming true servants of Hashem. Whatever happens in our lives, our “Hacna’ah” allows us to realize that everything is because of Hashem’s love for us.
Moshe Rabbeinu also alluded to this idea when he said, “That which is hidden is for Hashem.” He is reminding us that Hashem’s ways and considerations are not within our capacity to understand. We must accept everything with love.
King David also mentioned this idea of surrendering to G-d when he wrote, השלך אל ה׳ יהבך, “Throw your load upon Hashem.” This allows us not to worry as we place our lives in Hashem’s hands.
Getting to this point if real הכנעה takes a great deal of work. The effort is well worthwhile. The benefits are enormous as we live our lives with the constant recognition that we have submitted ourselves to Hashem. It will create the joy and peace of mind that we all seek.
