That boy who dared say ‘The Emperor Has No Clothes?’ – His Name is Donald Trump
Hearing Tuesday’s Oval Office comments from the American president left many in disbelief. Israeli journalists in the room were certain they misunderstood or missed a word, only to be in further shock following the subsequent Q&A session. Traditional and nationalist-oriented Jews in Israel woke up to the news this morning collectively pinching themselves. Shikma Bressler and the Kaplanist Crew, along with the handful of Israeli progressive wannabes had their heads exploding.
Donald Trump didn’t just pick up where he left off following his first term in the White House: Whoever thought recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the embrace of Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan and the Abraham Accords formula of “peace for peace” amounted to “as good as it gets” is now flat-out believing in the concept of reincarnation, with President Trump embodying the soul of Cyrus the Great.
Israel’s most popular morning drive radio show swapped its opening medley on Wednesday for Louis Armstrong’s classic, “What A Wonderful World.” When Donald Trump looks at Gaza, he sees the potential for trees of green and skies of blue. For decades now, the wacky world of conventional wisdom and proponents of realpolitik have signed on to the greatest singular hoax of modern times, forged by cynical Arab leaders nearly 80 years ago – that the multitude of Arabs from Syria, Egypt and (Saudi) Arabia who migrated to Palestine in the wake of Jewish investment and economic opportunity (they were looking for jobs!) constituted a unique ethnic identity and somehow were indigenous to the land they transferred to. While millions of Syrian refugees can be resettled in Canada so they can have a shot at life without war, the Palestinians aren’t allowed to leave Gaza, even when it’s of their own free volition.
Because it’s their ancestral birthright? But aren’t they refugees who have been displaced? No and no. Its because they are pawns – often, willing pawns – in a clash regarding hegemony over land, specifically the ancestral Jewish homeland. For extremist Muslims, the sheer idea of anything but Islamic sovereignty in the Mediterranean Basin is anathema. The Arab world has manipulated the West by fictitiously taking concepts such as refugee status, indigenous association, and ethnic self-determination and overlays them onto the Arab-Israeli conflict as a clever tool in painting the reemergence of the Jewish state as illegitimate. That strategy, combined with weaponized violence holding status as a glorified value in Islamic culture, has wrought decades of tragedy, death and destruction which the gullible West (someone suggested “useful idiots”) pins on the Jews since the sophisticated intellectuals and diplomats of the world drank the Kool-Aid blind, down to the last drop.
This is the international “establishment” consensus – held as gospel by all the “serious” analysts, academics, diplomats, policy “experts”, media talking-heads and politicians across the globe.
Enter Donald Trump.
Not in the role of emperor, but rather as the young child who innocently pointed out the obvious. The emperor has no clothes! In the modern reality remake of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale, it’s Donald Trump as the child who sees the truth and has the audacity to think outside the box of conventional wisdom, unburdened (wink, wink) by fear and blatant lies. No longer shall it be taboo to call the actual reality what it is, in fact.
To resuscitate Gaza as currently composed is to kick the can down the road, to be encountered again in a matter of years to the same tragic bloodshed wrought by those bent on removal of anyone but Muslims from the Mediterranean Basin. To rid Gaza of death, demise and destruction is to remove the poison, repatriate its occupants to the places from which they migrated in the first place and build it from scratch.
Apparently, it takes the unconventional persona of a Donald Trump to be able to state the obvious, the logical and the historical truth. That the intelligentsia is bellyaching about his mislabeled audacity is amazing nonsense and utter hypocrisy.
Recall that it was Hamas, celebrated by Islamists, who converted Gaza, post-2005 Disengagement, into a terror-nest web of attack tunnels several times the length and breadth of the New York subway or London Tube, built for the express purpose of the launching the attack which caused Gaza’s destruction. Recall that they genuinely view their own dismemberment as a victory because of the pain they inflicted on the Jews, irrespective of their own people allegedly suffering. Why allegedly? Indeed, they are suffering – by Western standards. But the locals there are all too willing to acquiesce by submitting to the suffering, all willing participants in the great hoax whose purpose is but the advancement of their Islamic dictum of ridding the Mediterranean basin of Jewish hegemony.
If, nevertheless, there are genuinely innocent people in Gaza, the hypocrisy of the establishment response to the Trump plan is even more audacious. Unlike that which is offered and encouraged in every other refugee situation, it’s somehow improper to so much as assist those Gazans who actually want to relocate and have better lives elsewhere. Their refugee status is forcibly maintained, at the behest of their Arab brethren and the acquiescence of the world at large, into perpetuity. “Ethnically cleansing” Jews out of Gaza in 2005 was acceptable notwithstanding the fact that Jews were originally there, in Gaza, thousands of years ago. “That is the price of peace.” Trump proposing a paradigm shift along the same lines, minus any evidence of Palestinian presence let alone existence from antiquity, is somehow incongruent.
Trump may nevertheless be mistaken for using his own overlay on the Gaza theater. Give them “a beautiful area with homes and safety and they can live out their lives in peace and harmony.” The radical Islamists aren’t interested in Western style peace and harmony. These are not part of their lexicon of core values. And we know – I know, from my own children who are Jewish military warriors who have been in Gaza over the past 16 months: there is no differentiation to be made between “Hamas” and the “innocent” civilians in Gaza. They are one in the same. Nary a house without a stockpile of weapons, missiles or tunnel entrance. The West just doesn’t want to believe that to be true.
So what? Perhaps Donald Trump is not using an overlay and is not such an innocent little boy simply stating the obvious about the Emperor’s wardrobe. Perhaps he’s flipping the script on establishment thought, them playing the role of emperor, much the same way he’s doing with his own government’s efficiency and bureaucracy. Perhaps he’s “calling” the bluff of the consensus that has reigned for decades and has brought nothing but perpetual conflict. Quite ironic that it takes a man with the problematic moral character of Donald Trump to set world affairs back to a place of sanity.
