The Big Lie: Israel/Palestine Edition
How the world’s institutions recycled Hamas propaganda into “genocide” headlines.
For two years, the same propaganda machine that once poisoned nations has been reborn.
Hamas manufactured the data. The UN certified it. Western media broadcast it. And world leaders rewarded it — turning falsehood into “fact.”
This is the anatomy of the modern Big Lie.
THE NUMBERS THAT BETRAYED THE NARRATIVE
“Seventy-two percent of those killed were men of fighting age.”— Gaza Health Ministry data, analysis by The Washington Institute & Times of Israel (2025)
The Gaza war was sold as the slaughter of innocents.
But when the source itself quietly admitted that most of the dead were combat-age males, the world looked away.
Headlines built on “mass civilian killings” never corrected the record.
The truth was inconvenient — so it was buried.
INDISCRIMINATE OR UNPRECEDENTED PRECAUTION?
“No military in modern history has taken more measures to protect civilians.”— Col. John Spencer, Chair of Urban Warfare Studies, West Point Modern War Institute (2024)
“Israel’s conduct in Gaza has set a standard that every other Western army should aspire to.”— Col. Richard Kemp, former Commander of British Forces in Afghanistan (2024)
That was the verdict of two of the West’s leading warfare analysts.
Evacuation maps. Text messages. Humanitarian corridors.
Each was designed to spare lives — even as Hamas used hospitals, schools, and mosques as shields.
But those details never trended. The accusation of “indiscriminate bombing” did.
STARVATION WITHOUT A SIEGE
“Hundreds of trucks of aid enter Gaza daily. Most are seized by Hamas before reaching civilians.”— COGAT (Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories) Daily Situation Report, May 2024; confirmed by UN OCHA logistics data
The world saw images of hungry children and concluded Israel was blocking food.
What they didn’t see were the manifests: long convoys crossing every day, recorded and verified by monitors on both sides.
What they didn’t hear were the UN coordinators who admitted that armed gangs — often Hamas — seized the majority of supplies.
The narrative of famine was born not from lack of aid, but from the theft of it.
MOVING THE GOALPOSTS
In Ynet coverage:
“COGAT said the IPC report contained ‘severe methodological and factual gaps,’ citing reliance on Hamas-linked sources, misrepresentation of key indicators and a ‘deliberate lowering of thresholds’ to enable a famine declaration.”
When the data couldn’t match the outrage, the metrics were quietly rewritten. Thresholds shifted. Methodologies bent.
A technical recalibration became front-page proof of catastrophe. The science of measurement turned into the politics of accusation.
LAWFARE BY REDEFINITION
“If every war is genocide, the word loses all meaning.”— Prof. Irwin Cotler, former Canadian Justice Minister and International Human Rights Scholar (2024 symposium on Genocide and Law)
Legal bodies turned from watchdogs into weapon-smiths. By expanding the definition of “genocide” to include almost any wartime harm, they guaranteed one outcome: Israel’s guilt.
Scholars and jurists warned that such legal inflation doesn’t prevent atrocities — it erases the difference between combat and extermination.
THE FACE OF LAWFARE: FRANCESCA ALBANESE
That warning was prophetic — and nowhere is it more vividly embodied than in Francesca Albanese, the UN’s Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian Territories.
Albanese has used her post not to uphold human rights but to launder Hamas narratives through the authority of the United Nations.
She has accused Israel of genocide while refusing to condemn Hamas’s slaughter of civilians on October 7, and she routinely portrays counter-terror operations as collective punishment.
“Francesca Albanese has turned the UN mandate for human rights into a megaphone for Hamas propaganda. She is not a human-rights expert — she is a political activist in a UN badge.”— Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch (2024 press statement)
Despite this record, Albanese continues to be welcomed on international panels and cited as an “independent expert.” Her presence gives institutional cover to a narrative written in Gaza and broadcast from Geneva.
When the world’s premier human-rights body legitimizes such distortion, the law itself becomes the next casualty of the Big Lie.
THE INVERSION OF VICTIM AND PERPETRATOR
“They tried to destroy us — then accused us of genocide.”— Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, IDF Spokesperson, October 2024 briefing on Hamas atrocities
It’s the oldest propaganda trick in history: the guilty claim the moral language of their victims.
- Hamas commits atrocities, then brands Israel “Nazi.”
- Terrorists fire from hospitals, then mourn the rubble they created.
- The murderers of October 7 wrapped themselves in the vocabulary of the Holocaust — calling themselves survivors.
This inversion doesn’t just distort facts; it hijacks memory.
It turns Jewish suffering into a weapon against the Jewish state and persuades the world that justice and evil have changed uniforms.
THE HIJACKING OF THE HOLOCAUST
“There has been one Holocaust in human history — the systematic attempt to annihilate the Jewish people.”— Yad Vashem Chair Dani Dayan, speech marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2024
For years, activists and propaganda outlets have borrowed that sacred vocabulary, describing Gaza as a “Palestinian Holocaust” or a “Shoah in Palestine.”
But in the past few days — coinciding with the release of Israeli hostages — this rhetoric has surged again. I’ve seen it personally on X (formerly Twitter) recently as yesterday.
Accounts on social media circulate selfies and slogans declaring “I’m a Holocaust survivor,” as though the term were interchangeable with “civilian caught in war.”
Each repetition chips away at historical truth.
It blurs the moral line between an industrial genocide aimed at erasing a people, and the tragic suffering of civilians in any modern conflict.
And it transforms Jewish memory into a weapon of accusation against living Jews.
If “Holocaust” and “genocide” are stretched to cover every tragedy, they cease to describe the singular evil they were created to name.
THE “PRO-PALESTINE” INVERSION
The rallies that claimed to stand for peace began within hours of the October 7 massacre — long before Israel responded.
“These marches are not about peace, because they began before Israel ever fired a shot.”— Douglas Murray, author and political commentator, October 2023 panel on Western media bias
And another question that should be asked if we want to be clear on the true intentions of these marches:
Why weren’t there any anti-Hamas marches on Oct 8 ?
“There was not a single major protest against Hamas in any Western city. Not one. The people who carried out the massacre and started a war did not find themselves the object of criticism on the streets of one Western city.”— Douglas Murray, speech at The Spectator Forum, London 2024
They filled capitals across the West with chants calling for the destruction of the Jewish state, not the rescue of civilians.
Even after hostages returned home and a cease-fire was declared, the marches continued, their slogans unchanged.
This movement calls itself pro-Palestine; in practice it is pro-terror.
It’s constancy reveals it’s true motive: not to end a war, but to erase a people and a nation.
“The people who are currently at encampments in support of Hamas … they’re for Hamas.”— Douglas Murray, interview on Fox News (2024)
University encampments expose the same inversion.
They use the language of human rights while flying the symbols of a terrorist organization. They speak of liberation while defending those who murder and silence.
To label such demonstrations “peace movements” is a triumph of branding, not morality — another instance of the Big Lie turning darkness into light by words alone.
THE GLOBAL AMPLIFIER EFFECT
The pattern is simple:
Hamas claims → UN repeats → media amplifies → politicians legislate → Jews and Israel pay the price.
Each link adds a halo of credibility, until emotion replaces evidence and propaganda becomes policy.
Marches erupted worldwide before a single investigation began.
By the time “corrections” arrived, the lie had already won and the damage already done. You cannot out that genie back into the bottle.
WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS
• Casualty data: revisions proved the majority were combatants.
• Civilian conduct: independent experts documented extraordinary restraint.
• Humanitarian aid: massive inflows; systemic looting.
• Famine metrics: thresholds shifted mid-conflict.
• Genocide claims: definitions expanded beyond law.
• Public movements: “peace marches” began before Israel’s response and continue long after the cease-fire.
Every pillar of the accusation collapses under its own documentation.
THE VERDICT
The “Big Lie” was never about Gaza.
It was about narrative power — about who gets to define good and evil.
Propaganda once used to justify the destruction of Jews is now repackaged to label them as “pariahs” for the crime of surviving.
The receipts exist.
The only question is whether the world is brave enough to face its own complicity — and read them.
