The complete idiot’s guide to MidEast peace (part15)
‘Netanyahu told Kerry gov’t could fall if prisoners released’ | The Times of Israel
It seems that ‘push’ may well be coming to ‘shove’ in the course of the next few days.
But exactly who will be doing the ‘shoving’ is still a matter of some conjecture. The betting is on the US being the prime candidate but, after nearly nine months of attempting to cajole, pressure and even bribe those in dispute here, does Uncle Sam still have any ideas, energy and stomach left for the task?
And will it make even the slightest bit of difference in the long run?
Because it’s always the ‘long run’ that matters. It’s of no earthly use whatsoever to stitch together some lopsided peace agreement if, in a day or so’s time, the whole thing unravels because some individual or group decides it was never their intention in the first place to abide by the terms and conditions of the deal. Which will inevitably happen.
Then the answer must be for us all to ‘shove’ back a whole lot harder, throw our weight around in no uncertain manner and absolutely guarantee that, in future, the ‘long run’ and the ‘short run’ will be one and the same.
