The complete idiot’s guide to MidEast peace (part56)
Livni: Israel strong enough to shed ghetto mentality | The Times of Israel
If Israelis really want to prove to the world and to themselves that they have thrown off their ‘ghetto mentality,’ then there is a way that they can do this. And, at this late stage in the game, that way may be the only one that now remains available.
Israelis must reach out to the rest of us on this planet and be prepared to allow some resolution of the circumstances in which they find themselves, to have all of us proceed in a common and concerted manner. Only in such a fashion can a unique resonance be demonstrated, a bonding that would draw all of humankind together in a singularity of purpose never before known.
Trying to go it alone will just not work. Because none of us can ever be that much alone.
Trying to work something out with the neighbours will never succeed. The neighbours bring with them problems that will only add to those already in place.
Trying to wait out the situation in the hope of some divine deliverance disappoints both G-d and Man. And haven’t we all had enough disappointment already in these matters to outlast an eternity?
Therefore seek to strike out in another direction, to discover that a new tomorrow is possible and that ‘to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.’
That season is here right now; this has always been so in every age. And our purpose must be to use our abilities as rational beings to think our way out of whatever difficulties and trials we face. To do otherwise is to admit defeat and resign ourselves to the vagaries of fate and the bitterness of having so much unfinished, so many things left undone.
