The Fork in the Road for Democrat Politicians.
Let’s be honest, there has never been a country, regardless of its past or current actions that had this kind of response to a vicious attack on its citizens. There has never been a country that faced such harsh response for its response to a vicious and barbaric attack and invasion of its sovereign territory.
We have to stop separating Hamas from Palestine. Yes Hamas is not Palestinians but it is the government of Gaza. They rule there, they as a government chose to attack Israel. An attacker has to acknowledge that a result of an attack, war will start and war will cause losses on both sides. It is not on the government that was attacked to secure security of the citizens of the country that attacked it. If one is to bring up the gripes with Israel, one must then to be fair, bring up all the actions of Palestinians to Israel, one can also bring all the actions by Arab states against Palestinians as well.
I’m going to speak now not as a Jew, but as a thinking person living in a democracy. We have to realize who we are enabling by acquiescing to “both sides”. Who it is that we do not want to anger. Do we really want to be on the side of those who justify terror, for any reason? Because if terror is a legitimate tactic for one reason against one people, then it becomes a legitimate tactic for any any reason against any people. If one can justify terror against Israel then one can justify terror against America and France and any other country.
Now politicians have to consider their voters. They don’t want to isolate them. But does it make any sense to legitimize those who celebrate murder? Does it help a party in anyway to bring into their fold those who seek change through terror? What does that do to the voters who know what those means bring about, no matter what ends they seek?
America and the world is at a crossroads. Our global stability depends on it. Either we continue to uphold our values that terror has no justification, that terrorist and genocidal authoritarian governments that start wars of aggression and use their people as human shields are abhorrent. Or we join Hamas, and start embracing terror as a legitimate tool for political change, unleashing all the carnage that that brings that we see happening across the Middle East where that is an accepted tactic by governments and population.
We have to be clear that endorsing Hamas and any attempt to stop Israel from doing everything possible to end this war that Hamas started with anything other than a full destruction of Hamas is not going to help Palestinian people, but going to keep them in this perpetual cycle of violence. Just as not defeating Putin in Ukraine will continue his aggression across the region and across the democratic world.
The Democrats who hold democratic values have to ask themselves who they support, do those who they support hold democratic values, or are we simply chasing votes in short term from people should have no home in any party in America.
