The global community suffers from an Israel derangement syndrome

It has been nearly two years since the brutal murders and hostage-taking by Hamas on October 7th. The moral barometer of the international community has fallen to its lowest level, revealing a disturbing trend of unprecedented hatred toward Israel and Jews across the US and Europe. Old tropes and blatant antisemitism have been legitimized by a narrative of victimization of the murderers and their accomplices in the heinous acts of October 7th. This includes members of UNRWA, an ineffective branch of the UN that has colluded with Hamas, as well as some Gazans who have been found to revel in the hostage-taking and torture, abetting the capture by harboring hostages in private homes. Nonetheless, the constant denunciation of Israel, “the Zionists,” and the Jews continues on university campuses, in the streets, and within governments.

Aid for the Gazans trapped under their elected terrorist government is in dire straits, a fact that cannot be disputed. The belief that Israel bears guilt for defending itself against a terrorist group that has specifically targeted and killed its citizens, while waging a campaign of terror for the past thirty years, must be questioned. Providing aid to Gaza is difficult as it is often seized by thugs who would choose to kill and starve their people rather than release hostages. It requires a new understanding of evil to describe those who would use hospitals and schools as cover for guns and rocket launchers. Meanwhile, their citizens remain exposed to war and devastation.

Nevertheless, leaders like Macron in France, Starmer in the UK, and Abela of Malta voice some of the loudest opinions on “Palestinian” statehood to deflect from their domestic issues. It is a “Wag the Dog” diversion from their inefficiencies in their respective countries. France’s government is trying to recover from chaos, promising a referendum on everything from immigration to Ukraine. Starmer’s government is precariously hanging by a thread due to rising calls to curb immigration and for Starmer to step down. Malta is embroiled in an illegal passport-selling scheme condemned by the EU, accused of money laundering, and is currently witnessing a trial for the 2016 murder of a journalist, who was blown up 300 meters from her front door. The journalist was uncovering corruption at the highest levels of Abela’s labor party which is also on the defensive about a hospital corruption scheme where 400 million Euros have yet to be recovered.

Malta’s claim to fame is this government’s love affair with Gaza and the Palestinian Authority, which has an “embassy” on the island. When news becomes too heated for Mr. Abela, he stages a photo shoot featuring “Gazan” children who need hospitalization in Malta. As of today, nothing has been reported on the conditions of the “Gazan” children that were transported for hospitalization, leaving everyone wondering where they disappeared to. Unfortunately, Malta, like Ireland, is the second most antisemitic nation in the EU; both states are predominantly Catholic. According to Villeneuve (2025), Catholic antisemitism is on the rise. This is not reflective of all Catholic countries or Catholics, but it is reflective of inherent antisemitism. Which makes these three pseudo-moralists against Israel and pushing for a Palestinian state more insidious. It must be noted that China, Pakistan, North Korea, Russia, Sudan, South Africa, and Qatar are also moralist and among those urging a “Palestinian” state because of “genocide”.

According to the think tank Canadian Jewish Advocacy (n.d.), the Arab Palestinians have been offered statehood since 1936, yet they have consistently refused. It does not take a genius to determine why. They do not want a state; they want Israel. A Palestinian state was proposed in 1936, 1938, 1948, 1967, 2000, and 2008. In 2008, then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert offered more land as an incentive, but that did not work either. Concluding that no matter how many countries vote for a Palestinian state to spite Israel, to appease Hamas, or simply because they dislike Israel as a Jewish state, another attempt by the UN will probably yield the same results. None of these irrelevant leaders has considered this question: Who do they envision running this new state? Hamas, the Palestinian Authority (which is irrelevant), or some other entity courtesy of the UN? Is the reciprocal condition going to be the recognition of Israel and its sovereignty?

The rise in Israeli hatred and antisemitism has very little to do with the war in Gaza. The former was inevitable, and the latter justified it. This is not an enigma; it is not a surprise; it is an unavoidable consequence of anti-Israel resolutions and antisemitic hyperbole by the UN, while it funded and raised an entire population on billions in donations without any contribution to anyone, let alone the Gazans. What exactly has Gaza manufactured, produced, sold, farmed, created, taught, or contributed to its people or the world? If you answered nothing, you would be correct. A beautiful piece of land with prospects for growth and creativity has been turned into a cesspool of terrorism with dug-up tunnels to kill Israelis. The world seems to overlook this minor detail while maligning the only democratic state in the region, whose population is primarily Jewish.

Israel has undergone significant internal political changes, which are typical for any democracy. While criticism of its government is acceptable, calls for its destruction cross a critical line. A noteworthy source of antisemitism comes from LifeSiteNews (LSN), which presents itself as a pro-life nonprofit family organization but has been associated with troubling antisemitic undertones. LSN has made various claims against Israel, asserting that the nation engages in expansionism with the intent to eliminate Christianity in the Middle East. It also alleges that Israel mistreats Christians within its borders and persecutes them in Gaza (Villeneuve, 2025). Villeneuve is an Associate Professor at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, Michigan. He studied the Old Testament and biblical languages, earning a PhD from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, along with a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Commission in Rome. He is well-versed in Scripture and biblical studies and Israel.

Villeneuve decided to confront LSN and its antisemitic undercurrents. After peeling back the layers of antisemite rhetoric, he discovered that co-founder Steve Jalsevac is the voice behind much of the antisemite narrative. Jalsevac publicly denied the October 7 massacres and claimed that supporting Israel is akin to supporting a “satanic, violent, racist- supremacist Zionist cult. ” Furthermore, LSN has labeled Zionist ideology a ‘mortal sin. ” Villeneuve points out that LSN’s focus is on criticizing Israel while overlooking the country’s significant contributions to various fields, including science and technology, as evidenced by its 13 Nobel Prize winners. Jalsevac conveniently forgets Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza in 2005. This withdrawal led to Hamas taking control and establishing what many view as a terrorist state. Villeneuve highlights that the Palestinian population has grown from 600,000 in 1967 to around two million by 2022, suggesting that if Israel were indeed committing genocide, its effectiveness is questionable. In contrast, the conflict in Syria has resulted in over 600,000 fatalities since 2011, illustrating the complexities and varied narratives in the region, but how only Israel is demonized.

At the upcoming June 20th UN conference in Geneva, the two-state solution will be put to a vote again by anti-Israel UN members enthusiasts. They call it a solution for Israel and Palestine. An inanity of words that mean very little because this is not a solution for either side. Israel does not want a terrorist state on its doorstep without some assurances, and historically, the Palestinians will not accept a state if forced to recognize Israel. This impasse raises questions. Under what right does the UN make regional decisions for an independent sovereign state without consulting it? Has it made the same demands of Russia? Did the UN conduct a conference on Crimea in 2014, or the intent of the annexation of the Ukrainian Donbas region by Russia in 2022? Is the UN going to conduct a conference on the February 2025 beheading of 70 Christians in Congo? Has the UN formed a coalition of Christian sympathizers or denounced the ADF (Allied Democratic Forces), a fancy acronym for terrorists who murdered the 70 Christians? The Christians were first abducted in Kasanga, then found beheaded in a Protestant Church (Christianity Daily, February 21, 2025). Maiba Congo (2025) calls what is happening in Congo “silent genocide” because nobody cares, nobody reports, yet according to Maiba it is of the same genocidal proportions as Rwanda in 1994. The UN is not holding conferences, and the International Criminal Court (ICC), whose logo should be a kangaroo, has somehow missed the crimes of the genocidal ADF in Congo.

Is the obsession with Israel, while ignoring evident atrocities elsewhere, a mental disorder? When a global body like the UN fails to respond to China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Congo, Yemen, and other regions rife with terror, death, and human rights violations, and focusing only on a sovereign state that contributes to science, technology, and is the only democracy in an area of despots, one must conclude that derangement syndrome is the cause. When governance-deficient leaders like Macron, Starmer, and Abela pretend to develop a moral compass while ignoring their turmoil and corruption, anything said or done at any UN conference should be dismissed as irrelevant, given the credibility of the mouthpieces who express it. The collective ethical and moral mindset of the UN is currently at a level and significance of wet lettuce.

Israel has never craved for war; it was compelled to it. In a 1969 Vogue interview, Golda Meir was quoted as saying: “We don’t thrive on military acts. We do them because we have to, and thank God we are efficient” (Golda Meir, n.d.).  Am Israel Chai!
