The Image of the Jew

The miracle that was witnessed by the entire world last week has not fully sunk in. There are new perspectives connected with the averted plane disaster that should be pointed out.

Rabbi Kalman Ber, the new chief rabbi of Israel pointed that perhaps the greatest miracle of all is that the plane remained intact while nosediving fifteen thousand feet in a very short amount of time. It could easily have disintegrated, G-d forbid, but through Hashem’s kindness, the plane remained intact.

The heroism of Yaniv the plumber, (who was rated ten out of ten as a plumber as well, and the Indian pilot opening the cockpit are well known.

Some have called this incident perhaps the greatest miracle of all witnessed by the Jewish people in modern times. It’s difficult to rate miracles, but one would have to be blind not to see the hand of G-d working His protection.

Another significant result of this incredible event, is that the image of the Jew is changed forever. No longer are Jews seen as weak and easy prey for their enemies. Jews are tough and fearless, and they fight back.

But perhaps the greatest result of this event is that we are witnessing a fulfillment of an important verse in the Torah. “And the nations of the world will see that the name of G-d is upon you, and they will fear you.”
Some have already spoken out about how it is clear that the G-d of Abraham is the same G-d that has performed this miracle.

We must show our gratitude to Hashem by making more of an effort to fulfill His word and be close to Him. Clearly, we have no one to rely on but Hashem. Last week this was made as clear as ever.
