The New York Times’ Obsession with President Trump
After Trump won the election on November 5, 2024, and after he took office on January 20, 2025, the New York Times continued their attacks on him as though nothing had changed. The Times did this in spite of the fact that 77 million Americans voted for him and in spite of the fact that he won the popular vote and the seven battleground states that all the pundits said would determine the outcome.
During Trump’s first term (2016-2020) the Times attacked him every single day. Yes, 365 days for four years. On many of these days, there were multiple attacks. The attacks were vicious and personal. He was a liar, a fraudster, lawless, immoral, and he nurtured hate. Plus, the major themes of the attacks — that he would destroy democracy and cause a constitutional crisis.
The Times did everything within their power to make sure that Trump was not reelected in 2020. A few days before that election, the Times devoted four full pages detailing all the terrible things that would happen to America if he were to win. The Times outdid itself on November 1, 2020. They devoted an entire section of the paper to vitriolic, anti-Trump essays from 15 (yes, 15) of their journalists and opinion writers.
The Times did the same thing over 4 years later, on Sunday, February 9, 2025. And these attacks were coming less than a month after he was inaugurated. The Sunday Opinion Section of the Times contained the opinions of several writers. Here’s a sampling:
Maureen Dowd who over the years had attacked Trump repeatedly. Her February 9 article dealt with the relationship between Trump and Musk: “Trump’s amoral, puerile wrecking-ball style is now squared by Musk”.
Jamelle Bouie — another article about the relationship between Trump and Musk. “They are both trying to re-write the rules of the American system. They are both – Corrupt oligarchs and monomaniacal ideologues”.
The title of the article by David French: “The Depth of the Trump Crisis is Coming into Focus”.
“Trump seeks to transform the presidency making it powerful, and Musk seeks to destroy executive agencies established by Congress.”
The title of an article by Ben Rhodes: “Welcome to a Nation Newly in Decline”.
“Trump is dismantling the very things that made America so influential.”
On February 11, Bret Stephens had this to say about Trump — “He scares me.”
Then his prediction — “We’re going to be living in an unrecognizable republic.”
Stephen sized up Kamala Harris as “beyond inept.” Yet I bet he voted for her.
Another article in the Times on February 11 was written by five former secretaries of the treasury during the past three democratic administrations. They blast Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency. They say that political control of federal payments would be unlawful and corrosive to our democracy. Also, that the president cannot withhold federal funds that Congress has authorized.
The entire Opinion Section wasn’t enough for the Times, so they added a formal editorial by a group of opinion journalists. Its main points —
Trump seeks to dismantle the federal government through his audacious, ill-conceived, and frequently illegal agenda. Trump is haphazard and cruel. For example, he has stripped several of his former advisers of their security protection.
He seeks to eliminate any trace of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Musk is breaking the law, he is mired in huge conflicts of interest. He has access to payment systems containing personal information on millions of Americans.
The bottom line of the editorial is that Trump is willing to trample any person, law,
Congress or country that stands in his way. He has no interest in rules, history or reality.
How can all the smart people at the Times not realize that these attacks only strengthen the devotion of Trump’s millions of followers? As happened in his first term I don’t think a day will go by without multiple attacks.
Part of the overall anti-Trump strategy is to drive a wedge between him and Musk by saying that Musk, in effect, is a co-president. That an un-elected billionaire appears to be in charge of our country.
Knowing Trump’s ego, they believe that is a sound strategy. The New Yorker Magazine had a cartoon cover in which Musk, was being sworn in as president and Trump was very much in the background.
Trump felt compelled to say: “Elon can’t do and won’t do anything without my approval”.
The New Yorker could be in a contest with the Times as to which one is the strongest anti-Trump publication.
TRUMP, ISRAEL AND THE NEW YORK TIMES
Many Israelis are conflicted because they have a high opinion of both the Times and Trump. Trump is unpredictable but is he a man of his word? Can he be trusted to keep his promises to Israel? Let’s have a look at the ceasefire truce that he bragged about.
The first phase of the ceasefire deal was to last 42 days and end on March 19, 2025. Thirty-three Israeli hostages were to be released in increments during those 42 days. On February 10, Hamas said they were not releasing any more hostages, claiming that Israel had violated the terms of the truce. February 10 was a Monday. In response to that, President Trump said that ALL the hostages had to be released by Saturday noon, February 15, or— “ALL HELL IS GOING TO BREAK OUT”.
Trump realized that the ceasefire agreement was awful for Israel. Nothing had as yet been negotiated in regard to the subsequent phases. Hamas was insisting that all Israeli attacks would have to cease and that all Israeli troops would have to leave Gaza. Obviously, Israel would not agree to that.
So what happened on Saturday, February 15? Trump did not keep his word. Hamas called his bluff. Three hostages were released, no one was talking about the 70 left behind.
The American press corp is so pathetic that no one asked the only question that mattered— You said very clearly that if ALL the hostages were not released on February 15 — all hell was going to break out. Why did you accept the release of a mere three?
Amazingly, this was the second time that Hamas called Trump’s bluff. After he was elected on November 5, 2024, he said on several occasions that unless ALL the hostages were released by the date of his inauguration (January 20), there would be — “ALL HELL TO PAY”
On January 20, three female hostages were released. And there was not — all hell to pay.
To the contrary the three were greeted by a raucous crowd of thousands of cheering, jeering Palestinians shouting that Hamas had won. The three were surrounded by armed terrorists hiding behind masks. The Gazan/Palestinian crowd obviously loved and admired them. Hamas would win any election. No one asked what October 7 did for ordinary Gazans. Islamic Jihad members were also heavily armed and masked.
On February 8, 2025 three male hostages were released. They were emaciated, sickly. Trump said they looked like Holocaust survivors. All hell did not break out. The three were forced to thank their captors for releasing them. One of the three was an American; Hamas held back several other Americans. Do you hear that Mr. President?
The hostages that were released on February 15 had to stand on a stage and mouth humiliating speeches. Surrounded by armed guards. In back of them was a banner with portraits of terrorist leaders another banner said in response to Trump’s threat to take over Gaza — “THERE IS NO MIGRATION EXCEPT TO JERUSALEM.”
Hamas is well aware of America’s constant pressure on Israel, as they are well aware of divisions within Israeli society. They figure that as long as they hold hostages Israel will not invade.
THE JEWISH CURSE
On February 13, Tu B’ Shvat, Jews took out a full-page ad in the New York Times. Their message — “Trump has called for the removal of all Palestinians from Gaza. JEWISH PEOPLE SAY NO TO ETHNIC CLEANSING.”
Listed in the ad are over 100 Rabbis, nearly all female. Obviously from the Reform Movement.
The attempt by some Jews to ingratiate themselves with our enemies is a curse and vile evidence of a deep-rooted insecurity and stupidity.
A lot of things need to be re-examined after October 7!
