The present pope has called Israel terrorists, now twice. Of course, we are as much terrorists as he is our friend. What a chutzpah!
But, just like Iran’s junta may be Israel’s enemy, the People of Iran is not. They’ve always been our friends. Don’t blame the group for the leader.
Equally, I’m sure that today, most Roman Catholics are our friends. Just like most Germans, after WWII, most Catholics have turned a page.
I grew up amidst Roman Catholics. Good people. My best friend had RC roots. That’s what religions do to most people: keeping them decent.
The present pope humbly answered the questions “Do you ever feel lonely?” and “Do you have real friends?”: “Yes, I have friends who help me; they know my life like a normal guy — not that I am normal, no. I have my own abnormalities and they know me well.” He’s like all of us, with friends, with bad habits, etc. I didn’t expect this vice of millennia, though.
Twice now, he has opted to stand with the genocidal enemy of Israel. Fooled him once, shame on Hamas; fooled him twice, shame on him.
But everyone can repent? The Bible teaches us that for some people, one doesn’t hold one’s breath. If someone has many Jewish friends, and was called out the first time, and again calls us terrorists, my hope is gone.
Look for my future post: Could one be an antisemite without knowing it?
As the above clip shows, he equated the suffering of violent terrorists treated well in the jails of democratic Israel with the suffering of the victims of genocidal monsters who kidnapped innocent Jews and friends, dead and alive, and holds them hostage out of reach even of the International Red Cross, so many types of war crimes and crimes against humanity. It’s like equating the suffering of innocent Jews in Auschwitz with the suffering of SS soldiers dying for their Führer. It’s beyond evil.
I guess, we need to adopt the policy my history teacher told us. Mister Hanssen was a defrocked Franciscan priest, so we got it from the horse’s mouth. He told us: ‘Do you know what the Vatican does when a cardinal rebels? They just wait ’till he dies. Problem solved. Always works.’
I like to give honor where honor is due. Here, there is none of it. It’s very sad. Like I lost a friend who doesn’t even care; were we ever true friends?
