The ‘right’ to go home: Denied!
Generally speaking, I am not a political person. I always feel that I don’t know enough of the issues, or the people involved to make an informed intelligent decision. I also feel that this “game” of political chess divides people and causes conflict and strife as opposed to working toward a solution. I also have a tendency to open my mouth and piss everyone off, so I have learned the hard way to listen more than I speak. Not a bad lesson, I admit.
I am not totally out of it. I do know that we are working towards “democratic reform” whatever that means and that there are people who are worried about their basic rights being denied. Again. I don’t know enough to make an informed statement in favor or against it, so I keep out of it. I do know that yesterday, my children and myself were denied a basic human right. We were denied the basic right of coming home safely.
I took my children yesterday to Yerushalayim for a fun outing, and we planned on taking the 8:40 (20:40) bus home. Except guess what? IT NEVER CAME!! Neither did the 9:00. No bus came at 9:15, or at 9:30.
Finally, at 9:45 a bus came to Ofra. and I said I will travel to Ofra and hopefully, some miracle will come and we will be able to get home. At this point, my children were tired, hungry, thirsty, and on the verge of collapse. Maybe it wouldn’t be such a big deal if it happened once. or even once in a while. But the truth is that it happens ALL THE TIME!!
Buses don’t come on a regular basis. This means that people are stranded and not able to come home safely ON A REGULAR BASIS!! Because we were stranded, I took my children out on the highway at 11:00 at night. Just in case you don’t know, highway 60 is not the safest place to stand. Especially with children, at night. There have been numerous terror attacks at that place. But at 11:00 at night what choice did I have? To rely on a bus that may never come? I already did that! Thankfully, because of the kindness of random strangers, we got home safely. NOT BECAUSE THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION DOES HER JOB AND LOOKS OUT FOR OUR RIGHTS. NOT BECAUSE OF EGGED TAVURAH AND CERTAINLY NOT BECAUSE OF THEIR BUS DRIVERS!
Miri Regev!!! How dare you?? How dare you overlook my “rights” How dare you not care for the rights of my children. I think the right to come home is a basic human right and last night that right was denied to me, denied to my children, and denied to all the other people who were stranded with me!
Thank you Egged Tavurah, Thank you Miri Regev, and to all the bus drivers who get a salary and don’t give a #$%@ about me, my children, and everyone else that was stranded on that bus. HOW DARE YOU? HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT RIGHTS AND YET IN YOUR JOB IN YOUR CAPACITY OVERLOOK THOSE OF MINE AND OF MY CHILDREN?
Like I said, I don’t get involved in politics but if you ever want to know what it feels like to be treated like a second-class citizen whose rights have been denied I can tell you exactly how it feels.
