The Spiritual Matrix of Creation, Torah’s Wisdom Reflected in the Fabric of the Universe

In this article, I will provide a very abridged version of the mystical secrets of creation and show you how these secret undercurrents are actually built into and reflected in the physical structure of the universe.

The point is, God is very real in every atom of our existence. The Torah and its rules, long before modern science, have been intimately connecting us with the essence of reality. Torah has held the wisdom of the universe both in the past and present, long before modern scientists discovered it.

It’s a dense article packed with facts, but there’s plenty to learn and many aha moments.

The Holy Shalo, Rabbi Isaiah Halevi Horowitz (1565-1630), says, “People make a mistake thinking the Torah speaks of physical things and hints at spiritual secrets. The truth is, the Torah is all spiritual, offering us hints in the physical.”

Because of this statement by the Holy Shalo, we understand our sage’s saying: “Praiseworthy is the person who comes to Heaven (after 120 years of life in this world) with Torah in his hand.” The only way to merit the spiritual energy above in Heaven is by holding onto and bringing with oneself the leverage to those spiritual energies, which is the Torah studied during one’s lifetime.

Let’s go.

Everything starts with God’s essential ineffable name of four letters: Yud, Hay, Vov, Hay. These four letters represent the shape and form of the four original building blocks from which everything was/is created.

God decided to create the universe with different tools that He Himself created. It starts with Keser, the Crown, which is often connected and represented by the number twenty. One reason is that the first letter of the word Kesser/Crown is numerically 20.

The letter Yud, the first letter of God’s name (the most powerful of the four building blocks) and connected with Kesser, is numerically 20 when written out in full: Yud Vov Daled = 20.

Regarding the holiday of Sukkot, a Sukkah is not considered kosher if it is built taller than 20 cubits. In Kabbalah, it is explained that the energy within the Sukkah is related to Kesser, which, as mentioned, is connected to the number twenty. Thus, exceeding that height would not align with the true nature of this construction.

So far, we have touched on the significance of the numbers 4 and 20.

God (represented in the four-letter name) decided to create ten sefirot, like ten differently shaped channels that further facilitate the creation of the universe with all its details and complexities. The actual world-related sefirot tools, with which God creates everything, are the bottom six sefirot.

All of this energy is further channeled through the 22 letters, shapes, and forms of the Hebrew alphabet. God created the world with words made up of these 22 letters.

Max Tegmark, a theoretical physicist, is known to have said that the physical universe is not just described by mathematics but is itself a mathematical structure. Our universe is an expression of these mathematical objects.

Ok. Now, let’s see how these essential energies, represented in the above numbers, play a critical role in the physical universe.

Proteins are large, essential molecules found in all living organisms that perform many vital functions, including building body parts, transporting materials within cells, and speeding up chemical reactions. These proteins are made up of smaller units called amino acids, which are like beads linked together to form chains.

In all of nature, there are 22 different types of amino acids. Humans typically use 20 standard amino acids as the main building blocks for proteins during translation according to the universal genetic code. Almost all life forms universally use these 20 standard canonical amino acids as the primary building blocks of proteins.

In addition to these 20, selenocysteine is known as the 21st amino acid. It is used in humans and many other organisms by a special mechanism.

Pyrrolysine, not used by humans, is considered the 22nd amino acid and is encoded by some archaea and bacteria.

Among proteins, enzymes stand out as special proteins because they act as catalysts, speeding up chemical reactions without being consumed in the process—for example, the enzymes in saliva help break down food quickly.

At the heart of amino acids and proteins is carbon, which forms their backbone. Carbon atoms can form four strong bonds, allowing them to create complex, stable structures like the chains found in amino acids.

When amino acids connect, their carbon atoms link in long chains to build proteins. Carbon acts like a sturdy framework that keeps these molecules stable and functional.

The number six is significant because carbon atoms have six protons in their nucleus, making carbon element number six on the periodic table. This number gives carbon its special bonding abilities, making it essential for constructing the building blocks of amino acids, proteins, and enzymes needed for life.

The foundation of all living beings is the element carbon, which can bond with other atoms in many configurations, including chains, branched chains, and rings. These form molecules in various ways, more than all other elements combined.

Carbon atoms are unique because each has four spots, or “bonds,” where it can connect with other atoms. This ability to form four strong bonds allows carbon to link with many different atoms simultaneously, including other carbon atoms, creating long chains or rings. These chains, as mentioned above, serve as the backbone for amino acids. The strong bonds that carbon forms are stable yet flexible enough to let these chains fold and twist into the complex shapes proteins need to function correctly. This molecular versatility is why carbon is essential for building the diverse and intricate structures necessary for life.

So, what we observe in the formation of this universe is the element Carbon, number “six” on the periodic table, with its versatile ability to form “four” strong bonds. This capability enables the creation of the essential “20” amino acids in humans and the “22” amino acids found throughout nature.

If you’re not flabbergasted by that, I don’t know what would make you jump out of your seat to notice the truth of our “old-time” sages and the importance of the rules in our Torah that reflect spiritual truths connecting us with the actual reality of our universe.

So, on this holiday of Sukkot, savor the four walls of the Sukkah no higher than 20 cubits to focus on the Kesser/Crown of God, shaking the four species representing the four letters of G-d’s name to connect Kudsha Brich Hu and Shechintay, that is, all divine energies for a blessed coming year.
