What follows is the official JAM`AT AL-FITRAH COMMUNIQUÉ ON RECENT TARGETED ASSASSINATIONS OF HAMAS, which I translated and edited into formal English at the request of founding members of the Gaza City Jam`at al-Fitrah chapter, who were interviewed and involved in some of my graduate research, second masters thesis and doctoral dissertation.

The Jam`at al-Fitrah and the Hidden Story of Gazans Who Quietly Assassinate Hamas Leaders and Propagandists

This is the first part of a brief documentary account of a small, disciplined, and deliberately offline Sufi Fellowship or Jam`ah, which has been actively and militantly fighting Hamas on the ground, since three days before the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) entered Gaza following the October 7th Pogrom against Israelis—Jews and Arabs alike.

We are known as the Jam`at al-Fitrah (JaF)—a circle that began, perhaps ironically as universalist Sufi syncretists and for all intents and purposes, even pacifists. In the wake of October 7, however, we were forced to assume the mantle of clandestine self- and community-defense against the terrorist Nasibi cult of Neo-Caliphatist Fascist, which goes by the acronym of Hamas.

This account is indebted to our spiritual leader, Shaykh `Isa Adam, and his brother, Dr. Micah Ben David Naziri. While we are fluent in English, none of us would have been able to craft this without their help, advice, and editing.

A further note on this: this account is based solely upon on first-hand interviews, private correspondence, and long-running field notes; names are withheld where necessary to protect surviving relatives in Gaza who have not yet been identified by Hamas.

What follows is neither hagiography nor “both-sides” equivocation. It is a continuous, integrated history of how a Sufi study circle became Gaza’s armed conscience, and why the outside world—media, analysts, even seasoned services—keeps misreading what we are and what we have been doing (when they are even aware at all).

Some Background

To reconstruct this story faithfully requires starting long before the first reprisal and staying long after the headlines moved on. Our ethic was formed outside of buildings, offline—neither in chatrooms, forums, social media, nor even physical rooms at all. It was formed in spaces where devices are powered down, and necessarily remain so.

Our texts have without exception been copied by hand, like those of the Tariqah of our dear Shaykh before us. In our circle, healthy debate and constructive argumentation has been treated as a natural part of `Ibadah—worship. We do not require group think. Unlike the government which has ruled us like a disgustingly, internationally-legitimized mafia, we are anti-fascist to the core, and welcome disagreement… so long as we can agree to not be disagreeable.

For more than a decade our circle’s public posture was quiescent out of necessity and the Sunnah model of the A’immah of the Ahl al-Bayt when the Caliphate deprived them of their rights—even of free movement from their homes! We have been pacifist for all intents and purposes, but never as a stated position, simply because we do not believe in violence unless absolutely necessary to save innocent lives.

To this end we follow the Sunnah of the Ahl al-Bayt and the true and Historical Prophet Muhammad they preserved the truth about—not the genocidal, pedophilic and hallucinating Dajjalic “Muhammad” of the Caliphate’s fictional Sirah. We follow the real man behind the name—and his family’s teachings in his name. This Dajjal which Hamas, Da`esh and other such kuffar invoke with the name “Muhammad” has nothing to do with us and we have nothing to do with him.

In our circles, we did then, as we do now still in evenings, study sermons of the Ahl al-Bayt read alongside the Torah and Zabur which the Qur’an came to confirm not to abrogate nor disparage. Zhikr alternated then as now with studies of Neo-Platonist thought, mysticism, Semitic linguistics, etymology and grammar, related to the Qur’an, as well as common ground between Islamic and Jewish Law.

One God. One Nation.

Like the Historical Muhammad who penned the Constitution of Medinah before us, we believe that the truth followers of Islam are an Ummah Wahidah with the Jewish People. We stand and fight along side of them against the oppression of Hamas and similar terror cults and Neo-Caliphate Fascists who have taken both of us equally as their enemies.

As the Qur’an teaches, the Shaytan has taken you as his enemy—so take him as your enemy! Ya Allah! We hear you and we obey! Hamas is our avowed enemy and we are their avowed enemy!

Just as they murder us, we bring them to justice by any means necessary. If they insist on death, then we follow the teachings of  Shaykh `Isa: amilu al-nas bima yuriduna an tuamiluhum bihi (عاملوا الناسَ بما يريدونَ أن تُعامِلوهم به), to “do unto them what they would in fact have us do unto them!” If you pray for so-called “martyrdom”—ya habaybi—then we shall eagerly escort you to the Gates of Jahannam!

As always, then and now, sectarian shibboleths are refused on principle, not as branding. We are not “just Muslim” as so many say as a cop out to ignore the historical oppressions of the Caliphate against the Ahl al-Bayt and their disciples, companions and mutashay`un. Neither, however, do we slouch into the Khomeinist sectarian branding, claiming Shi`ah when they are just as far from such a term as the rest of the Mutaslim world is from the Sunnah of the Historical Muhammad, his true Companions and Holy Family.

Only in the aftermath of October 7—after the shooting of evacuees and the recent execution of one of our founding members with his family in a zone vacated under cease-fire—did the circle permit a defensive lattice to form. Indeed, it has been months since we have been engaged in much active combat with the Hamas shayatin. When we did engage them, it was typically to liberate food and aid supplies and redistribute them to the People of Gaza!

Even then, whenever we have engaged in defensive violence—even when we seemingly “bomb first” as the great artist Tupac Shakur would say—we did so under a clear code of ethical conduct that has never and will never be breached. Any who would ever breach such rules of our Jam`ah are simply not members of our Jam`ah. There is no compromise when it comes to the ethic of preserving and defending innocent lives.

Specifically: we do not now, we never have and we never will engage in the targeting of non-combatants; seizure of any property of non-combatants as restitution, nor looting of non-combatants. Our strategy is naturally and intrinsically without excess—we seek Balance and Harmonization above all else.

Whenever there is a seeming need to engage in an action that would in any way replicate or bear similarities in modus operandi to that of the corruption we seek to arrest, then we disengage and regroup—waiting for a more opportune time to advance. Far from being a hinderance, this code gives us the moral clarity and the Barakah of Allah ta`ala to successfully conquer the cancer of Hamas which has ravaged the body of the Ummah today.

This account also documents what our movement is not. We are not a clan nor clan militia, despite frequent attempts to map us and graft us onto the Dughmush surname. This is merely one of many families that our members are a part of. They have more members unaffiliated with us than affiliated with us and members thereof almost certainly are unaware of who is affiliated.

We function, accordingly, more as a secret martial order than as a public group. Before October 7th, we were but one chapter in Gaza City, with less than ten people to our study circle. Within months, we had grown to over one hundred—within a year over three hundred and today we are over one thousand members, of varying degrees of involvement.

A family is a demographic container, not a creed and the Orientalist concept of “clan” does not parallel what we mean by this. When we mean “family” you think of “tribe of savages”—this has nothing to do with us. You are simply speaking of families in Gaza and you think you are speaking of united tribal factions. This is only real in your Western imaginations. We would laugh at this misunderstanding if it were not so serious as to actually result in the deaths of innocent people over hear because of lazy so-called journalism.

The Jam`at al-Fitrah is not label-driven army. You should realize the root of this media misunderstanding has to do with the rotating “Jaysh” aliases keyed to the number 313. Many groups employ the term Jaysh, which is simply the word for “Troops.” These are protective covers and morale symbols, not separate formations in many cases.

Yes, we go by the phrase Jaysh al-Mahdi and Jaysh al-Ghadhab, and yes the Dughmush family has had members in factions which use the term Jaysh as well. This is just a word, not necessarily a title and one Jaysh does not equal the other. Someone tell your reporters because they are making fools of themselves and any of their readers who take them seriously.

Lastly but certainly not least, we are absolutely not a proxy for foreign hierarchies. We do not act in concert with the Israeli government, nor IDF, nor will we. We do not fight them, as their enemies are our enemies. As they gave us notification to evacuate our families in accordance with the Rules of War, both in the Torah and Qur’an, we respected that and did so—insofar as this was possible. When Hamas prevented us from evacuating many of our elderly, two years ago, we realized we had no choice but to begin conducting Militant Direct Action (MDA) against them.

Our adhesive is doctrinal and pedagogical rather than genealogical or geopolitical. Misreadings persist because they are convenient to the architectures that produce quick intelligence and quicker copy. Sadly, the Mossad has apparently been no better informed on us than the media pundits. This is unfortunate because their failures cost lives too—just as they did within their borders on October 7th, 2023—and that is what in fact has led to all of this Hell-on-Earth. Convenience has always been a poor teacher to the impatient and intellectually lazy—but nevertheless, the teacher which they clearly prefer.

This is only the first of many Communiqués to come, explain our actions, intentions, moral code, history and future, in sha Allah ta`ala—as Dr. Naziri so often and amusingly amends—illa izha hasal li makruh.

O God, hasten Relief—Faraj—and appearance for Imam al-Mahdi; and, by the Return—Raj‘a—of the Spirit of God, grant us eyes by which we see and ears by which we hear the Spirit of God throughout the world… and make us—if it be Your Perfect and Holy Will—among his supporters, helpers, and those who bear witness or if need be are martyred before him!

Allahumma ajjil lil-imam al-Mahdi al-Faraj wa al-zuhoor, wa bi-Raj‘at Ruh Allah, wa amnahna uyunan nubsir biha wa adhanaan nasma‘u biha Ruh Allah fi jami‘ anha’ al-‘alam, waj‘alna — in kanat mashiyatuka al-Kamila al-Muqaddasa — min ansarihi wa a‘wanihi wa al-mustashhadin bayna yadayh.
