The Yisro

Back when the inimitable, blond, charismatic Ivana Trump was a favorite subject of the New York City tabloid press, she received a lot of attention for calling her husband, real estate mogul Donald Trump, “The Donald”. It implied overweening success and a touch of monarchy.

New Yorkers laughed. They got it.

It was a different time then. There was less screaming, almost no rioting and public envy was suppressed. People seemed to have a sense of humor.

Following his history-making Gaza peace plan, Trump should be renamed “The Yisro”.

Yisro was a Midianite ruler, adviser to the Pharaoh and Moses’father in-law. He is remembered for his joy at hearing of Israel’s deliverance from Egypt. The torah, in Exodus: 18-20, relate that he “rushed” to greet Moses in the desert and that Moses went “out” meet him and embrace him.

After observing Moses judging from morning to night, Yisro advised him to teach the people the law so that they might govern themselves. Further, he counseled him to establish lower, intermediary and higher courts or he “would wear himself out”. Yisro’s visionary wisdom caused Moses to establish the judicial system among a people still enthused by the miracles they had witnessed and perhaps thinking that God would continue to rescue them in matters great and small.

The creation of the judicial system sent that message that man must do his part to create communal peace and progress. Yisro “saw” a way to ensure the survival and longevity of the Jewish people.

Parsha Yisro is the also the parsha in which the Ten Commandments are given.Naming the parish after Yisro is reflective of the esteem in which his memory is held among the Jewish people.

President Trump is likewise revered in modern Israel.

Israelis appreciate what he has done in attempting to safeguard their State and end the ongoing conflict.

Trump is a rational man, a businessman, but is also a man with a vision.

“History has shown us,” the president said upon the announcement of the Gaza peace plan, “that those who have relations with Israel have thrived, while those who have devoted resources and attention towards the destruction and even annihilation of Israel have languished.”

Opponents in the legacy media and the x.com immediately started sputtering.

What they forgot or never knew was Genesis 12:3 teaches us the following:

“And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse, and all the families of the earth shall be blessed in you.”

Once in a while, President Trump lets us see what is behind the curtain. He is a man of Scripture and now, especially after he survived two assassination attempts, a man of God.
