Three Steps in Your Acquiring Calmness of your Soul (Menuchas Hanefesh)
Step 1: Recognize how much of your life is good
Your realization that most things in life are good is the first step towards you acquiring Menuchas Hanefesh.
You should not suspect HaShem will send you something bad.
There is no reason He should send you something bad.
He does so much good for you.
Why would He not continue doing good for you?
You trust HaShem!
Think about those people who are
not as fortunate as you.
People who do not have as much money as you.
People who are not as healthy as you.
Then you will truly appreciate what
HaKodesh Boruch Hu gives you!
Step 2: Remember HaShem’s love for you
Place in your mind that HaKodesh Boruch Hu is full of love and kindness towards you.
He is not looking to hurt you.
He is looking to do good for you
in the best possible way.
Step 3: Don’t allow unfounded worries to control you
There is another aspect to Menuchas Hanefesh.
How should you deal with unfounded worries?
Focus on the good!
You must realize that almost everything
the Ribbono Shel Olam does is clearly good.
There is no reason to suspect Hashem
will do differently to you.
This method works for someone who
doesn’t have a specific reason
to suspect something.
For example:
You are nervous you will get sick.
You are nervous you will not have
parnossa (make a living).
In truth, these thoughts are at the root of most of your fears.
Most of your fears are unfounded.
You see people who experience bad things.
You fear G-d forbid that this should not happen to you.
When you find yourself in these situations
focus on the good HaKodesh Boruch Hu does.
Think about it.
You know many more people
who have it good,
than people who have it bad.
Sure, there are people who have bad (G-d forbid).
But when you focus on these people,
you become nervous about your own situation.
You are concerned about things that have
never and may never happen in your life.
You are worried you might experience it.
These are unfounded worries.
When you experience these unfounded worries
there is a simple solution:
Focus on how many things in your life go right.
You soon realize all the good HaKodesh Boruch Hu
cares for you and is doing good for you.
You will then become much less suspicious that
(G-d forbid) He will deal harshly with you.
He almost always does Chesed (kindness),
Rachamim (mercy) and Ahava (love) for you.
This takes practice
but you start to look
positively at your own life!
