To Know How to Bless Each and Everyone

To Know How to Bless Each and Everyone

Torah Portion – v’Zot ha’Bracha (Deuteronomy 33:1 – 34:12)

Dear reader:  this sonnet  brings to a close,  the series of “Torah in Verse”, Torah portion reflections  of this entire year of readings of the Torah (the Five Books of Moses). It is the second time that I have undertaken to write a series in poetic reflection on each of these portions in verse. The first series of “Torah in Verse” was written several years ago.

To know how to bless each and everyone

This, Moses teaches us by his blessings,

Prior to his departure from earthly life

Giving each all to fulfill one’s mission.

It is for each recipient to be custodian

Of the set purpose for which one is born.

For that, each must listen to one’s inner voice

And cultivate the inborn talents received.

Fulfillment is dependent on the satisfaction

Of the contribution to the good of all.

To repair the world is a collective effort

By which to give rather than to receive.

It is then that we make each day count.

To live the length of days in our given years.
