Together
People are bashing Netanyahu, the IDF, and the intelligence services, that they should have known that Hamas would attack. They’re bashing Ben Gvir for egging on the terrorists. They’re bashing the judicial reformers for allowing the enemy to think that Israel is divided and weak.
And the right is bashing the opposition parties for encouraging protests and division.
But they’ve all missed the main cause of the Simchat Torah tragedy.
The Lubavitcher repeatedly and passionately warned that giving away land is dangerous, because (as commentaries on Shulchan Aruch — Code of Jewish Law, Orach Chaim section 329 explain) it can make it easy for the enemy to conquer the land.
This attack by Hamas was waiting to happen. Giving away land is inherently flawed.
I remember watching a video, in which Sharon was asked why he’s giving away Gaza, when the Rebbe was against it. Sharon answered, that he wishes he had more faith in the Rebbe.
We can’t say that if Sharon hadn’t given away Gaza, that things would have been different. Because once something happened, it was bashert — Divinely ordained. But we can analyze what the root cause was, and learn for the future.
So there’s no reason to engage in the blame game. Israel needs unity. We will persevere. Together we will eradicate the evil that is Hamas. Together we will heal. And together we will greet Moshiach, when those who died will rise, and we will have peace and happiness forever. Together.
